I guess this could go in swap and sell, but...

I need some magnets before next weekend. I need DS 24 (2 of each character obviously) and prefer either red or black. I would like to get them cheap since I don't really care what these look like. Eventually, I would like to get some "pimpy" (Did Hoppe or Shawn invent that word?) magnets.

Does anybody have any extras? Franks, how much would you charge if it is possible? Or, where could I get this done?

So you have a nice Type R (spotless I'd expect) but you don't want nice magnets? :?

For prior seasons, THSCC consistently had a file box on the sign-up table outside the bus with class letters and numbers that can easily be taped to the sides of your car, just be sure to use some light tack (painter's) tape to hold them on, then they peel back off easily w/no residue or damage.

You may also be aware of this, but you're generally much better off applying adhesive vinyl numbers and letters onto square/rectangular cut pieces of magnetic sheet (color matched to your car is always nice) than cutting letters and/or numbers directly from magnetic sheet. The latter tends to fly off the sides of the car too easily during a run, the former has more contact area (more magnetic cling) and less leading edges. Different colors of magnetic sheet are available from McMaster Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com) for pretty cheap, and they generally ship the day of order out of Atlanta (2-3 day ground delivery). Considering the size needed for autocross, you'll probably have to get those custom made by a graphics/sign shop. I've ordered from LettersUnlimited (http://www.lettersunlimited.com/price.htm) several times, they offer a huge range of colors, quality is excellent, prices are very low (except you'll have to pay $7-8 for shipping), and they generally ship within 1 day of order (~4 days ground delivery).

Charlie,

Michael's in Cary sells packets of magnetic material for pretty cheap. You can print out some letters/numbers and use them as a template to cut out the letters/numbers from the magnetic material. This is what Emmett did for his Beamer letters/numbers.

Edit.... Sorry I just realized you are located in Greenville, SC. Scratch Micheal's in Cary. I am sure if you can find any kind of craft/sign store they should carry the magnetic material.

Only if they will make me faster.

Actually I want to get some nice magnets eventually, but for an initial set, I am not really concerned.

Well, I don't know if this qualifies as cheap but I just got my numbers from Triangle Sign today. I placed the order yesterday. I was more concerned with quick than cheap, though. Total was $22 I think.

Two each of:

I snagged a couple of rolls of magnetic-backed colored vinyl from my last job (with permission). I still have a little yellow-not what you want T don't think, and quite a bit of red. You could cut your own, and I'd sell it to ya CHEAP! (free if you take it off my hands). The only catch is it will be at least the April event before I can get to an autocross. I might be able to send it with someone else however.

Let me know-PM or email

Here is another approach to getting numbers quickly.

1. Get some magnetic material and cut it into strips the stroke width of numbers.

2. Draw out a seven segment number full sized on paper.

Image

3. Cut out the segments on the paper and then cut out the segments from the magnetic material using the paper segments as patterns.

4. Draw the letters freehand on the magnetic material and cut them out.

5. Spray paint the material the needed color.

I did this back in the early 80s when I did not have much money and the club did not have assigned numbers. Also cutting the numbers out of strips did not create much waste. I got my class letters and 6 digits out of a 1 foot square of material.

Or he could create his own with Word and a printer and not rely on THSCC to provide them. They aren't that hard to print on your own.
