I understand that in the BMW e36 world, the front bumper and underside skirting will interchange between a 3 series and an M3. Not a lot of difference from a functionality standpoint. My question is, if I changed the front bumper on my 328 to an M bumper, does that through me out of stock class? 8)

thanks....

I think that you might be able to do that & be STS-legal via the body kit allowance. Bumper skins are open iirc, don't know about the underside skirting - depends on where it is & what it does.

edit: I also remember seeing a change to that section in the latest fastrack, so you might want to check that out.

Come on, Rodney, you know you want to take it to STS... :D

ouch, i bought a stock 328is with stock front bumper, it has side skirts that appear to be stock. i assume tech inspection will sort this out. surely hope i don't have to change classes.

The guys doing tech are not responsible for classing your car. They are doing a safety inspection. It is on the car owner to class it properly. Get one of the BMW owners to help you. One of them will be able to figure it out.

If you just bring your other car I can tell you now what class it goes in, SS

i really need to kill some cones for a season before i bring out the Z. i will admit it, that car is more than i can handle. 190hp is a ways away from 405, so i think i will stick with DS. i really think the side skirts are stock on the BMW.

328is did have side skirts. You'll know they're stock if they have a circular cover integrated to access the factory jack points. Also, they should be body color on the 328is, where as on the 325is, they were a dark gray, unless the owner painted them to match the body, which was a common modification. - AB
