I think the best improvement I can make for my self is to put the driver on a diet and drop about 40 lbs 8)

It's not fun realizing that in college I was about 210 - 215 and now I am pushing 265.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Tom, what have they been saying about the possibility of creating more ST divisions. On the STS board they keep talking about it, but I'm not sure what to think of the people on the board yet as most seem to be, well ummm.....full of it  . It would seem smart to me to do that as the civics are CSP cars and everything else running at this point is a DSP/FSP car. Not to mention that ST classes are among the fastest growing and most popular right now. I'm interested because I'm either going to build an STS car or buy a Kart, If STS gets thier stuff straight I'm buying a Storm GSi.

Mike, I didn't know that the SI motor was available in the earlier years. That's pretty neat you must own one or something to know that  . UD/BD is a good thing from the standpoint of going to the junkyard and pulling a chassis with a blown motor. You can build a car alot cheaper like that when your gunna be pulling the whole thing apart and putting it back together again anyway.

The Civic's, even with UD/BD are not unbeatable. I will make sure of that next year. Take a look at Nationals results. On day 1, David Rock was in 5th place in a Celica GT-S in STS.... on a blown shock no less. Jeff Hurst, without the cone, would have moved David to 6th in his less prepared Celica GT, but he was dirty. My car will certainly be prepped better than his... As for UD/BD, I don't think it's in line with what the SCCA was thinking when they created the class, and now they're getting around to fixing it. - AB

There is definetly nothing planned for next year for ST2. I think that has another year or so before it would be alive. They need to fix the current STX cluster before they add any more classes.

The civics are here to stay and like aaron say, they are beatable. I think the celica will be a great car next year, and a BMW 325is could still be a contender on the longer courses.

There is actually more to the "Frankencivic" than just a simple engine swap. They are also able to pick and choose suspension parts from the various years to provide better geometry than ever came from the factory on one car, and use lightweight interior trim parts. (where the 40# difference came from)
David Rock's shock had been repaired before his championship runs, it was messed up during the Finale only.
I wonder what would happen if you put the suspension mods the STX guys are using on a base Mini...

I've always looked at ST* as SP with additional mods allowed but no race tires. With this view it's easy to accept ud/bd because it's allowed in SP. I think the Civic "problem" is a bunch of noise over a small issue. After all, the big scary frankencivic didn't dominate at nats and its supposed huge weight advantage isn't even 100 lb. When (I think in the next 3 seasons) ST* is split into three or more classes this issue will go away, as there will be a class for the light/fast/lower power Civic/Celica/Mini, a class for the heavier/AWD/LSD WRX/is300/E30 M3, and a class for the higher power but still non-LSD Mini S/325is/whatever.

But I'm just talking out of my a**. I like ST* but won't run it nationally until and unless the rules stabilize.

Enjoy!

I'm still unsure of what to think overall of UD/BD, but I do know from my own research into Storms that UD/BD will help me a good bit. Much in the same way it does the Civics. With UD/BD means 2150ish# Storm with 155-160hp. Without 2250ish# with 145-150hp, not that much of a difference but still significant. My only problem is the gutless torque curve of the 1.6L 16V engine. Oh yeah, and the complete lack of an aftermarket for the car. I guess it's a good thing I know how to do CNC then isn't it. And like the Civic the Storm can be had at dirt cheap prices, I looked at a GSi just the other day for 200 bucks, but it was a 92 1.8L car and I want the earlier 1.6L car.
