Wow, I was looking at the test and tune last night when I signed up and there's a boat load of folks in DS that are testing and some I did not recognise. Who's running in DS this year? I see that Scott and Sally are running X this year. From what I can surmise, it looks like we'll have about 8-10 players this year and that's great!

Post back to this DS stock thread, let us know who's running and let the smack talking begin!!

Rodney,

I ran in STS with my 95 GSR last season. However, I bought an 01 Type R this year and will be competing in DS. I relocated to Greenville, SC, but I am going to try to make it to most of the THSCC events.

On another note, what is the final consensus on the street tire agreement? I have Azenis now, but would like to buy some R-comps when they wear out.

We have extended the gentlemen's agreement into this year to run on street tires (Azenis included). Though I'm sure we won't mind if you want to try out some new tires later in the year, Of course, if you win, we'll point at you and say you cheated. :-)

Here's where I put the smack down on all you other guys in DS. I can now no longer blame my car as being underequiped as the reason I'm in last place. I've just added a set of KYB AGX's and I'm on nearly new Azenis. Plus with the front sway bar and the beautiful growl from the exhaust I'm sure to leave you all gasping in the dust! Ha ha ha! Look out! I'm hot!

And just think what they'll do if you show up on race tires and don't win

I'll be running my ITR this season in DS all the while leaning from the experienced D Stockers.

Nighthawk Black Pearl, Phoenix Yellow and Championship White will be in full force revving 8.6K... that's my only smack talking 8)

I, too, have decided to depart TIR for DS this year. It's nice to have a sizeable open class running street tires with some very good competition - looking forward to it. Also good the Hondas outnumber the Subarus :D Charlie - stop talking about running race tires, I can't afford it ! At least, I haven't made the mental leap yet to spend that much on tires. Matt - how long did you say Azenis last on that thing ? My 1st set (now 1 year old) have about 10k miles and 55 AX runs. They're about 1.5 mm above the wear bars...

Just a point of reference...

My 205/50-15 Kumho 710's will be here this week, just over $600 before mounting and balancing. I expect to need 2 sets to complete the season (let's call it 2 drivers running 10-12 events).

I probably spend $750 on tires in the past 2 years of street tire running, that's with a 2 driver car AND the '03 night series.

All you ITR guys would be buying comparable tires, the BMW and Subaru guys can plan on spending MORE because bigger tires cost more.

Dave, the Azenis I used each sustained about 8-10K of daily driving torture and 20-25 runs. I just switched over to Yokohama ES 100's which don't even compare to Azenis in grip but my goal is to squeeze 20k out of them and get some Millenia wheels to mount the Azenis to save money and save 4 pounds at each corner. 8)

Personally, I'm not even entertaining the notion of buying race tires because I'll be buying my first home in a couple of months. I often wonder what it would be like to have a quicker car though...

Steve,

Brief description and a snapshot of the Azenis can be found at:
http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_t.htm

This model of Azenis was relatively inexpensive and has pretty good grip.

So you figure the 710 is good for about 80 runs?
With probably the 1st 40 or so being the best grip then having them fall off quite a bit for the remaining runs?

I want to try them but I need to get 1 season out of them. The Nittos are pretty beat up after 1 season but I can possibly get half way through this season. One pair is a little more abused since I didn't rotate front to back every event.

I think I'll be throwing my hat into the DS arena this year as well. I'm going to try and cut expenses this year so I'll be running Azenis. Should be a good battle with all the folks that are coming out.

Well it looks like I will have plenty of role models to finish behind in my first full season.

I'm looking forward to an education.
