I'll bet that this topic has been beaten to death before, but I'll play the noob card here and bring it up.

I'm not complaining, just curious about the PAX. Given the cars that are in ES, FS and DS, I'm wondering why all those big guns in D get a better index than cars two classes below them?

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

Because FS cars handle like drunken pigs. :drunkin:

Mustangs may have lots of fun power but they like to push miserably, and no amount of FS legal suspension mods can fix it. :banghead:

<smart ass>
Because the fastest DS cars in the country are slower than the fastest ES & FS cars in the country.

:poke:

If you notice a lot of people from a certain class clustered at the top of the PAX rankings, it might mean that their cars are better prepared for the class they're running in (and the conditions of the course they're running on), or it could just be that the class just happens to have a higher percentage of really good drivers.

:whoknows:

Classes are not always in order of speed. Thats why FS bumps to AS and ES bumps to CS, (I think :whoknows: )

Also if you look at the results from a National event where weather didn't really play a role you'll see that the PAX usually works out pretty well. It may be off by +/- .001 but it's not much more than that.

sure, but it does seem strange that cars such as (d-stock) Integra Type R, RSX-S, IS300, BMW 3 series, DSM's, S4, WRX, Celica GTS have a more favorable pax than a (e-stock) 1.6 miata.

Scott, a properly prepped 1.6L Miata should be able to beat (raw time) any of the cars you've listed, depending on the course. Now, the ES PAX has been determined based upon the MR2 and how well it does, for the 1.6L Miata is not considered 'the car to have', although I don't think it's an enormous disadvantage. - AB

... and let me go on to add that i've been running mid-pack for most of the year in street tire class and i feel that's a good representation of my mid-pack autocross driving skill set, so i'm not complaining either. :lol:

it's just a curiosity that might make an interesting discussion on a morning where i'm trying to avoid work.
