The Blue Ridge Region-SCCA is hosting a Phase 1 and Phase 2 school at the Danville Airport April 2-3, 2005. If you have been thinking about attending an Evolution school this is the closest to the Triangle that a school is scheduled at this time.

The Evolution web site calender shows that this is 2004 event but that is incorrect.

I plan on attending at least Phase 1. The cost is $220 per phase.

Mitch I take it that you have verified this? I saw a proposed 2005 schedule in addition to the current 2004 one that you say is incorrect. The proposed 2005 schedule didn't show a school in Danville during April. :?:

I would definately like to attend a phase one school sometime this spring. Based on the proposed 2005 schedule Virginia Beach is the only feasible option. Danville is quite a bit closer isn't it? If so I would much rather go there.

The April 2 & 3 dates are correct for 2005. Follow instructions on flyer: URL: http://home.ntelos.net/~combsl/EVOflyer.pdf

Danville airport is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Crabtree Valley Mall so it is a lot closer than Virginia Beach.

I checked several weeks ago and they were already full. They were exploring options for adding an extra P1 and P2 school each day, not sure what the status of that is.

Thanks Scott and Mitch. I actually found the flyer after I posted the question. Should have editted my post. I didn't realize Danville was that close. I hate they are already full. Hopefully they will add that additional school. I had no idea that the class sizes were that small. Is that typical? I guess you have to sign up way in advance.

I sent Lynn an email to see where they are. I'm interested in doing Phase II in the spring. I'll go elsewhere if they are full.

Danville surface would be less harsh on the tires than the Pungo Airfield ODR uses in VA Beach. But I think there is a little bit more room at their site. Based on how much room we had to work with last year at Danville it is pretty tight to do 2 schools on the same day (opinion).

It'll be interesting trying to get 120 cars on that site for the event this year. But it is a nice site overall.

When I sent a email asking about the school Lynn did not say anything about the class being full. What's going on? Have they already determined that they can do 2 classes a day?

The BRR-SCCA forum has the list, good new for the Phase II waiting list, Sally and I just decided that we'll be saving the money for family stuff, so we're out.

Thanks Scott. I am canceling my enrollment. I would never have enrolled if I had known that I was going to be wait listed.

Mitch- You'll be number 1 on the wait list. My experience tells me that means you will likely get in between now and then.

They are also working on adding new schools so double the capacity. If you haven't sent money, I'd just stay on the wait list and not send the money, when they need it you'll get contacted!

The forum that you pointed me to shows that I am number 4 of the wait list for the Phase 1 class and I need that before I can take phase 2.

I just got an email from Lynn Combs that he will know about the second school in a few days. I'll post it when I find out.

I got a response from Lynn last night. He still didn't have an answer on 2 schools. But I would say get on the wait list and let's see if he gets the ok.

I did manage to get the last spot on the list for Phase II :)
So I'll be sending in my money soon to lock it in.

Don't forget... that as a general rule, the first thing that is required for THSCC to host an evo school is that we need people to run it. I was involved in it for four years. There are others on this list that have helped with one too, such as Mike Whitney, Brad Mackey, Mark Vitacco, and others....

So... if one of you organized types wants to step up to the plate and show an interest in hosting one, it could happen here. The process is basically that you need to understand what's involved and talk it over with the VPs and our Prez to see if the senior officers want a school to happen this year.

We haven't had evo schools here in awhile, so ..... if the demand is there, it's often possible to make such things happen.

Regarding demand...

I am going to at least a Phase I this year SOMEWHERE. When this thread first showed up, I got approval from the CFO. But I am on the fence with respects to Danville (second date issue). I have just been so busy at work (it's the Holiday's isn't it supposed to be slow at work?!) that I haven't been able to look at the Evo schedule to see when and where other schools are going on.

I checked with Greg Smith and ODR is putting on their annual schools. So while VA Beach maybe a bit farther away it is still one of the closest places you can go. He does have openings for the March schools.

http://www.odr-scca.org/evo-schools.pdf

When we went up there last year we stayed overnight. They got a good deal at one of the hotels. So splitting a room made it pretty cheap. Cost us more money to go out to diner that night...
