The subject of this thread is GREENVILLE.

Does anybody want to talk about the Greenville site?

Personally, I liked the grip (or lack of) at greenville. In the morning it was a pain, but got better as the day went on. It's just cool to hear race tires squeal.

I voted for going back one time next year, but I still have reservations about running 120 cars there

With regards to grip, you guys have got to remember that the first run group ran on a partially wet course when the temp was about 48 degrees. No site is going to give you great grip in those conditions. I'll have to remember not to let us do beta site tests in November from now on!

I really think that there is the potential for Greenville to develop awesome grip in the summer time temps.

I actually thought the pavement was of overall excellent quality and held up well. With one or two small exceptions, it did not develop the gritty sand pile syndrome as the day wore on. I saw one spot with a some oil on it, but the rest of it was pretty clean.

I think it will have grip at least as good as the RBC lots, and better than Sanford or Rockingham.

Just a prediction.

To be perfectly honest, I would actually change my vote for 2 G'ville Ax'es to 1 if we went to VMP instead. I had forgot about that site being in the mix.

IMHO, variety is the spice of life, 2 L'burg, 2 Sanford, 1 G'ville, 1 R'ham, 1 VMP, 1 Danville is a GREAT 8 event schedule. I know that may not be able to be worked out due to R'ham and VMP being difficult to schedule.

Just my 2 cents

Ryan is absolutely on track. We run at a variety of sites for a number of reasons:

1) It brings variety
2) It spreads out the geographic distribution (the same people don't always have the farthest trip this way)
3) It adds an element of stability to our club. If we only ran at three sites and two disappeared in one year, or all three.... we'd be hurting big time.
(Don't think it can't happen.. we've lost Rocky Mount, RBC, Morrisville, and Lumberton, in the last few years...)
4) It provides options in flexibility with regards to scheduling.

I'm sure there's more... but the above is a good start.

Miles we (about 10 of us) appreciate you trying to throw us Easterners a bone.

The rest of you will have to forgive us if we don't want to hear any whining about how far you have to drive to a venue. :boohoo:

If you don't count Greenville, the next closest site for us is over 2-1/2 hours away.

Find us a place to run and we will come...even Rockingham.

Well, Vincent and Ryan, if you two would get off your asses and find us a killer site out east, I'd be happy to drive all the way out there too!

Hahaha. :)

How about something 2x the size of VMP, concrete, lighted, with bathrooms, for $100 a weekend? Oh, if bikini girls were available to wash my car for free that would be nice too.

I'm sure y'all will get right on it

Getting out of the box a little bit here...

Let's not discount the utility of a wireless timer on a parking lot autocross site. IMHO we still think about starting and finishing in fairly close proximity because that's how the bus gets set up.

The wireless would allow for a finish configuration that would otherwise put the bus or timer wires in the line of a car. The course map doesn't show if there are any other exits to the event area, but if there were, it opens up a few possiblities about starting in one spot and exiting the fenced area to get back to the grid.

I think Greenville has some potential. No, I do not think it is the greatest site in the world, but I think we should give at least one shot. Preferably not in July or August, though. I would give up Rockingham. The amenities are nice, but I do not like the layout. Just my opinion. I'd rather go back to VMP. I wasn't crazy about Danville either, but I'd be willing to give that site another chance, as well. When it is all said and done, I will support the decision of our officers as they have the best overall knowledge of schedules, costs, safety, etc. But as a voting member I say let's go for Greenville at least one more time and give up Rockingham if it gets cost prohibitive.

Narrow self interest aside, I think it is a very good site. I think the am cold grip thing was an abberation, as I have never seen the grip improve on a course that dramatically during the course of an event. Not only was the surface 40-some degrees, but so were our tires. We also don't have many sites that are 5 minutes from a mall, restaurants, gas stations, used car lots (for emergency replacements), and a University town. Think of the benefits for non-Ax type signifigant others! Oh yeah, I got about an hour and a half more sleep.

One nice thing about a possible hot July or August event there would be the potential to try something different in regards to format. Very few people truly enjoy standing in the 100 degree sun all day (at any site).... so we could do something like start an event at 4:00 and run until midnight! The site does give us interesting possibilities. It's also one of the few places with indoor facilities which gives us a chance to get out of the sun.

I'd even be up for a 4:00 pm start, then running all night and quitting at noon the next day. Granted, it wouldn't be a 24 hr event, but our goal would be to minimize time in the most miserable parts of a hot summer day.

Even if we ran a normal event there in the summer and finished at 5:00, local hotels with pools abound, making it a potential candidate for a 2 day event.

As you can see, I'm trying to figure out how we'd structure an enjoyable two day event there and take advantage of the night time capabilities.... Just throwing out ideas at this point.
