:)

Just wanted to get an idea of what "the people" want. We may or may not change our mind from the 4 stated earlier.

I voted to drop all of 'em.

If I was taking the night series seriously I'd be swapping tires and running DS, where the car actually fits, instead of STX.

more history...

after one of the early events I calculated some PAX results? Why?

Because I'm a bastard and I wanted to know. We all like to know, and it saved the trouble of everyone doing it themselves.

Then, I posted those results, then it snowballed into a series (since we don't give event trophies).

As it became more competitive I haven't lost sight of the fun. The trophies (if there are any) will certainly be "fun". In fact, you may recieve something you don't want (I'm still working on a source for a nice case of VD for the winners).

Trophy for open class? A corded Hooiser comes to mind.

Trophy for tire class? Maybe a year long subscription to the beer of the month club (I better drive faster). Or, more likely, a busted old street tire.

Not only do you get awarded these crap tires, but you become responsible for awarding them to next years winners (so you can't throw them out).

We may even all vist your home to make sure that the trophy is displayed prominantly!

Didn't mean for this to become so serious. I guess I should have put more of these  in my other posts. I am not complaining about the night series, best thing since white bread.

I'm fine with dropping as many or as few as is decided by our fine club officers. :P

As far as the points and trophies go, I don't think the people who are at the head of the points races really care about trophies so much - it's more of a "I want to beat that guy" thing. For example, last Tuesday night, I decided I was going to play around on some crap tires and just have some fun. That all changed when Mr. Buckley was a second or so faster than me on his Azeni (and when the car started getting really hard to control  ). So I had to bring out the Azeni myself and see what I could do. Turns out I liked going fast a lot more than I liked playing around and doing pendulum turns on asphalt. I ended up having the most fun at an autox that I've had in a couple of months. My plan is to just keep doing what I'm doing (just going as fast as I can) and try not to worry about whether somebody's going to catch me. But I know we're all still going to keep comparing results, because that's what we do!

Peace and love,

Kevin

edit: (I voted to drop all of them, so I don't have to add another useless item to the garage)

I'm the guy that voted for three. Personally I think we should REWARD attendance - it's the people that attend all of them that can be relied on to do things like drive the bus, set up the course, etc.

The series is FOR those who are most involved. The trophies should go to those who are most involved.

Scott and company talked me "up" to 4, but I was for 2 or 3 drops.

Don't blame me, I was not involved in the "talk". I think the first night series awards were cool.

I voted for drop them all.

A) Because I haven't driven well enough to make a difference.
B) It's just for fun.

I think the award for this year should be......... :beerbuds: a shiny new bottle of beer, which you can then open with last years award, the official THSCC beer opener.

yea, whatever you guys decide is cool...got a question though...what does 'Drop them All' mean...does that mean that we won't score the event, that we won't post results, or just that we won't have any rewards for the winners, or something else? i don't think anyone really cares about tangible rewards, but i think we would all like to see results.

btw, i LOVE the night events...i mean, come on, 7 or 8 runs in a couple of hours with a bunch of people that know what they are doing...i think the night events have done more for my driving than all of last seaon...plus, i like not being out overwhelmingly "hoursepowered" on the small RBC courses :D

"drop them all" means "no season trophies / awards". C'mon people, even though we're doing this for fun, we're a bunch of competitive car geeks. We can't get together all year and drive the wheels off our cars without adding them all up at the end of the year to see who came out on top. It's just our nature.

I feel a little like Kevin and Adam mentioned before -- they are for fun, but I have *more* fun when I'm competing versus driving around in the parking lot :)

I have been having a great time at the night events. The events are very social, fun, and provide alot of seat time (sometimes with instruction thanks Scott and Jim). I thought the whole point of the night series was to come out for a fun lowkey event?

First, kudos to Scott for doing the final results. I have to believe that it is a pain in the butt. But he has them done and posted faster than many clubs with computers. Thanks Scott.

If we really wanted to see performance, why not implement the rally scoring into the night series. Take all of your runs and PAX those. Is it fair to take only 1 of 7? Just a thought.

Here's a wonderful suggestion...

We stop scoring the night events RIGHT NOW. The rest of the events this year, you come across the line and see your time, but nobody's up at the bus writing it down for you. So you just have to remember what your fastest time is so far, and then race against yourself, instead of trying to beat "Mr. X" (of course, if you're really interested in knowing how fast Mr. X is running, you can ask him.)

This way, we eliminate the stress of working timing (and getting the results posted) for a few people, we promote interaction between drivers (to see what the other guy is running), and we put the focus more on improving our own times.

Feel free to tell me how idiotic this sounds.

:D

Pastorius has a very cool idea. Of course, it brings back the "how many events to drop" question in a big way...

Despite my earlier post, I do like having times recorded and posted on the web later. It's just that this series is so laid-back and fun with almost nothing on the line. Dropping all 8 and maybe awarding nothing but fun prizes ("Best drift" comes to mind...) seems great to me.

Highlands has a night series that's been run for something like 10 years. They award year-end trophies and actually take the events more seriously than their day series. The intensity level at their night events is up there close to an NCAC.
