Anybody heard anything definite on this? Last I saw, they were having some issues with Carowinds management & may have to move the event somewhere else. Who's planning to go IF it does happen?

According to the CCR folks, Carowinds changed their minds. They are trying to secure a new site, and should make an announcement this week. - AB

The date is supposedly firm (3rd weekend in Nov). Like Aaron said, a decision on site should be final soon, hopefully this week.

Actually, I asked Steven Rankins a couple of days ago, and here's what he said:

"It is going on. It will still be the weekend of NOV 20&21st at Greenville Braves Stadium. The contract was signed last night and is being returned with a check today. There will be info passed to the clubs later today."

:D

So what's the Greenville Braves Stadium site like? Never been there before.

Lots of curbs, islands and light poles. Pretty much the whole NCAC course last year was off camber. Might be different thid go round.

For an event of this size it's way too small IMO. Not to mention it ain't exactly across the street.

Maybe I'm stupid or something, but what would prevent them from using Laurinburg?

Seems like that would make a great site for the "North Carolina Autocross Championship" to me. :?

I believe Ryan and Vincent are thinking of the "Knights" stadium which is roughly 30 minutes south of Charlotte.

Unfortunately, the Greenville Braves Stadium (GBS) is even further-- heck, it's nearly in Atlanta. I went there for the first NCAC event last year and I think it took me around 4 1/2 hours to get there. On the up side, the site is AWESOME. At least from my perspective...

It is a large piece of asphalt with some very cool elevation and camber changes. I'm guessing it is 2-3 times the size of the RBC center lot we used to run the night series in. It is close in size to VMP but a little smaller. I think there was 1 light pole near the middle of the lot but that was it. It was the only course last year where I was near the top of 3rd gear in the Miata which was ~90mph!!!

A few other Tarheel members were there and they may be able to give you a better description of the place. If you can stand the drive and they do a halfway decent job on the course, it is well worth attending.

Jim

I don't understand why we can't use Laurinburg either. It is long enough to host an event, dirt cheap and centrally located to all clubs except HSCC.

I suggested Laurinburg to Steven a while ago. Must be an ego thing and not wanting to use Laurinburg, a THSCC venue.

CCR stepped up to host it and I guess they want to use one of their sites? I can't really blame them for that. I'm glad they are doing it this year since I don't think anyone in Tarheel was that interested in putting on the event this year. They obviously are dedicated to the event since they have had to deal with 2 sites dropping out from under them and they are still trying to put the event on.

As far as using Laurinburg, maybe next year. If the NCAC is still around for 2005. I'd like to see Tarheel try and host it there. I think we could do are really nice event there with lots of "perks". Imagine the 40th anniversary event but even better.

Shawn

I'm going to go based upon the description that Jim made of the site. It sounds great. - AB

We are planning to go even though it is encroaching on our busy holiday season.
Might be breaking in our new tow rig. :D
