A coworker and her boyfriend are coming out to the fall school but don't own a suitable vehicle. She's been looking at the rental situation, but has only been able to find places renting Mustangs. That'd be OK, but does anyone know a place (local to Raleigh) that has Miatas or Mazda 3s or Proteges?

Thanks!

Chances are that any rental car will be a slushbox instead of a manual. Miata.net lists only a couple of places that rent Miatas, and those are generally in either CA or FL.

Others are:

Neons (hahaha  ), Grand Prix, etc.

Focus, Mustang etc.

"Someone" I know that went to go rent a car for one of our Rallycrosses went to enterprize (at the airport) to pick up thier car and they had a Mazda Protege wagon thingy on thier lot...not sure that you want a wagon though. However..in my experience, theywon't let you reserve a specific car. You make your reservation for a "Dodge Neon or similar" and then you can pick from whatever happens to be sitting there when you show up. And I have never seen a manual car at a rental place with the exception of the exotic car rental places in Vegas....

I know that Dollar has rented manual transmission cars in the past. I was renting in DC for business, and they rented a manual V6 Mustang to the guy in front of me - they specifically asked if the guy could drive a stick...
