It's getting a little out of hand here. If you only come to a couple of events a year, DON'T RESERVE A NUMBER. If you changed classes & don't plan to go back to your old class soon, UNRESERVE YOUR OLD NUMBER.

This message was approved by citizens against reserving numbers & then hardly ever using them again.

Is there any way for the website "maintenance crew" to clean out reserved numbers that haven't been used in a year or two?

Permnums are supposed to be used for club members only, so any non-members (or expired members... cough... Tom Hoppe... cough) on that list theoretically should be removed. Aaron Buckley headed up a big purge a year or 2 ago, but this would ideally happen on a more regular basis. And of course it will all be automatic once our mythical database-driven website comes online.

That said, I'm still not sure we have an actual problem here. What is "out of hand"? Have you been getting reports from new members who haven't been able to reserve the number they wanted?

Frankly, since anyone who doesn't have magnetics needs to use up some of our paper numbers and apparently a roll of our blue tape, I don't mind bending the rules a little if it helps them use their own numbers ...

edit: to answer your question, no, there's no way to identify people who haven't run lately without manually comparing the permnum list to results postings. If you feel strongly enough to volunteer to do the identification, though, I'm willing to do the actual culling.
