Adam, I know you like VW's and all, and thats cool, they have their niche and I like them myself. They offer certain qualities that other cars don't offer and thats cool. In general I think VWs are cool cars myself. But what exactly are you basing your quality presumptions on. VW hasn't finished anywhere near the top of any *quality* or *dependabilty* ratings I've seen in a long long time. In fact, in recent years, VW's biggest quality "victories" have been not finishing DFL in dependability and quality ratings. In just about every study I've seen in recent history GM as a whole, has soundly beat VW. Now, if we're talking about 20 year old cars, that may not be the case. But the past 5 years, absolutley.

If the subaru people can talk smack about 911 Porsches, then it seems only fitting there are vw people that would talk smack about Corvettes. No accounting for taste :)

Well I didn't say anything about VW's to begin with, I was commenting on the relaibiltiy of GM's and the Corvette in particular. Others brought up both VW's and the rabbit in particular. Then someone made a comment about how could I compare a rabbit to a corvettte, so I simply pointed out the recent autox as an example.

No as for reliability, who's info are you useing? Because a quick search of various sources, and sorry JD and assoc is not a very impartial source, shows essentially identical results for the last 5yrs for Ford, GM and VW autos. Now if you go back more than 5yrs then both Ford and GM fall off dramatically. If you go back 10ys on VW the same thing shows up.

And besides the fact that I autox a MKII VW I am under no impression that VW's are competative in autox. FSP is the only calss where a VW, a rabbit, is THE car to have.

But besides all this in case you haven't noticed I like to give people a hard time, especailly when they make it so easy;

Quote:
Adam, I'm sure you're not going to start a thread on the capabilities of a VW Rabbit compared to a Z06.. right? You're not even thinking about going there, right? ...

Yes, I'm primarily referring to JD Power and Consumer Reports results. These are the most established source of quality ratings. Lesser organizations that are trying to make a name for themselves are certainly going to attack these giants to try and hurt their credibilty and thereby justify their own existence. And certainly no VW fan is going to give credibility to JD Power, I mean, they must be cheating for VW to come in last all the time. :-) Obviously, no system is perfect. But these two are the "standard" and I will trust them over "Jim Bob's Truly Impartial, We Promise, Car Ratin Service." By the way I'm by no means proclaiming Ford to be great. They finish middle of the pack in just about everything I've see. I also contend that the difference bewteen the best and the worst these days is relatively small, and almost not worth worrying about. Strangley enough, of the umpteen cars I've owned, the least reliable have been Toyota's. No matter which survey you look at, Toyota has almost always finished near the top, so much for personal experience.
