Thanks again everyone for your advice. SS it is going to be. I am not sure if I would really ever be able to be competitive in TIR except at Laurinburg. The shorter tighter courses seem like they are just too difficult to make up the difference in PAX.

You know Graham prices are really starting to fall on the C5's with the C6's coming out. I have seen some nice 99/00 FRC's for under 20K and some Z06's for under 30K.

Got you thinking.... 8)

I have seen a few here and there. It would be hard to find but they are out there. Seems like I have seen some 02's somewhat local for around 32k. I have seen some dealerships knocking almost 10k off of MSRP for new ones as well.

Here is a 01 in Florida for 28k:

LINK

It has some miles on it though...01's also have 385 hp and 385 torque vs the 405/400 of the 02 - 04.

P.S. Can one of you computer savy folks tell me how I post a link and rename it so that it isn't 16 miles long like the one above?

Don't worry Chris I've been tracking C4 and C5 prices for a couple of years watching the momentum swing. The C6 is already pushing the C5 prices down and the C4 prices up. I've been looking at 99 FRC's and 01 Z06's. A well kept Z06 that hasn't been tracked is still closer to $35K if you want low miles. I'm up in the air about which C5. Also considering going out and buying a fully prepped C4 track car.

Graham

If you go to the URL button you will see how to replace the mile long link with some other text.

Normal shows the link
url]http://www. milelonglink[/url

With text replace
url=http://www.milelonglink]Nice text [/url

Notice you move the first ] to the end of the link and put a = where it was located.
I had to leave off the first bracket and the ending bracket so you could see the code to enter.

Thank you George. I have always wondered how to do that. Is that method specific to just this message board or is that how it is done everywhere?

Yes Graham most of them still are in the mid 30's. If I would have known last year when I got mine what I know now I would have waited until this summer and got a Z06. After driving a Z my car felt heavy and sluggish.

A 99 FRC with the Z51 handling package would be great as well especially given the price that they can be had for. I take it you are considering getting into track events in the future?

Actually Chris, track events was all I ever wanted to do. I got into autocross by accident. But I enjoy it a lot and it makes a good lead in to doing track. Next year I'll do some HPDE's and hopefully Bragg-Smith school in the early spring time. The 99 FRC w/Z51 was exactly what I looked at to make a good base car for track.

Ya know, if about 10 to 15 people went in on a group buy of a Z06, we could afford to get a used 2002, low mileage 405 hp car in the low $30s. About $2200 each for 15 people could get you a nice $34K car. Or maybe you'd want to limit the ownership to ten people or less and just have each member pay more.

We could establish an organization and let the "company" own the car, kind of like groups go in and buy a big houseboat. We'd have to set up an escrow fund to take care of repairs etc. And I'm not sure how insurance would work... but I think it is entirely possible. Chances are that all the owners wouldn't be able to make it to every event, and responsibilities for routine maintenance, etc. would come out of "membership" fees or annual dues. We might be able to get a special "agreed value" insurance policy that covers the vehicle when being trailered, stored, etc. If we didn't register the car for street use, the cost would go down and we'd have that money to put into maintenance, car parts, etc.

We could have an SS class with ten entrants at every event! I'm not sure the max number of drivers we could really handle on one car, but if the car ran all four heats, I could see us realistically handling 8 drivers with no problem.

Mike, you set it up for us ok?

:)

And it would then promptly blow up. I mean we are talking about a GM product here

Adam, I'm sure you're not going to start a thread on the capabilities of a VW Rabbit compared to a Z06.. right? You're not even thinking about going there, right? ...

Well I hadn't planned on it, but.....

If you want to look at the results from Rockingham, a certain FSP rabbit soundly beat every Corvette there. :P
