I think a moment of prayer is an excellent idea and I would definitely participate during/after the drivers meeting.

I was brought up in an educational system that started everyday with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence. I was also taught the importance of God as practiced by the founding fathers of this country.

I believe a moment of prayer at the end of the drivers meeting would give anyone not wanting to participate an opportunity to leave, while allowing those who would like to partake in an organized Moment of Prayer to participate.

I think an ecumenical prayer is fine, though I would not be interested, personally. Religious tolarance was an important part of my upbringing.

In fact, if anyone wanted to have a "prayer alternative" involving consuption of coffee (or vast quantities of water) I'd be willing
to organize it. I'd like to have a place to be respectful while not participating.

I have not gone back to review the forum rules yet on this... But my personal opinion is that until it gets out of hand we can let this continue. So I think we can talk about how to make this happen or not, but please don't let this get switch off topic and make it a general religious discussion. If we wanted to do that, I think that "The Lounge" would be the best area and even then, the forum rules would probably kick in at some point if/when it gets out of hand.

But if this thread does get out of control, it will be locked and/or removed.

Thanks a lot Jim. I understand why some people may oppose this idea. I would not bash them in anyway at all. We are entitled to our own opinions. As for a moment of prayer before the event I would like to just post a flyer on the registration table and have a brief moment for those that want to gather. Of course I will only put the flyer at the table if the officers feel this is ok, and of course this is by all means 100% voluntary.

This works for me as well.

An official response:

Feel free to post a flyer or two to announce a voluntary prayer or service. It will not be part of the driver's meeting, but we would be happy to announce that it will be held for those that are interested.

Thinking about this logistically, though, it would have to be before the driver's meeting. I believe that it is the hectic pace at an autocrosses which usually keeps this from occurring.

I believe Miles has done this in the past at a few events. And it's a regular occurance at track events.

I think a lot of people appreciate it, especially those faithfuls who are torn between autocross and church :)

Consider it done. I will have a flyer posted on the registration table, and will hold a brief moment of prayer/silence right before the Driver's Meeting.

Just wanted to reiterate that I meant know disrespect to anyone by bringing this up, and my respect for everyone hasn't changed at all.

I will try to come to some of the Auto-X events this year but my budget has been shot by my cat's too regular trips to the Vet. He has been there enough they are giving me discount coupons. :cryin:

Let me apologize if I have said anything that could be interpreted as confrontational, this was not my intention, I was merely trying to give a little background as to why I would be inclined to participate in a moment of prayer or Bible verse. My educational upbringing should not be misconstrued as better or worse than anyone else, only that it took place in a different time and place then today.
