I have yet to take a school where you only get four runs. All Evo schools consist of the instructor riding, driving and observing.

Rather then commenting from the starting line. Riding in the car makes for better instruction. That was my point.

:)

I bet if I rode with you I could pick out some mistakes that you made, just like if you rode along with me you could pick out mistakes I make. I also bet that you couldn't tell that from standing outside of the car and watching.....

Not at Rockingham, but the scales were open at Roebling this weekend. Think a bunch of people went thru them.

95 BMW M3 - 3212 lbs

Corner Weights:

LF 773 RF 764
LR 833 RR 842

Those include me in the driver's seat, half tank of gas and the assorted junk cleaned out of it.

I weighed at the Rock twice. First time I either brain-farted or the scales were tared 100# light. I could swear Sat. am I pulled on the scales and read 2255 with me in the car and 2035 car only. I double-checked that afternoon because I didn't think a stock Miata would be that light, and found that I had gained 95# (estimating 5# fuel loss). I don't know for sure what happened, but that puts the car at 2130 empty with an almost empty tank.

2320 with nearly a full tank.
What to do?
1.) find OEM hood (currently aftermarket steel!)-$300: -25#
2.) A/C out: -40#
3.) CF deck lid-$250: -10#
4.) Install new fly-by-wire steering system-$38,000: -13#
5.) Inflate tires with Helium-$6: -.007 oz.
6.) Japanese prototype ceramic Block & Pistons-$21,000: -180#
7.) Honeycomb/Titanium monocoque chassis-$105,000: -450#
8.) Cast Titanium/SiC whisker control arms-$4,500: -19#
9.) 12-CD Changer w/ 4 X 400 amp & massive drivers-$1,100: +40#, but hey, ya gotta have tunes!
10.) Replace battery with recently-declassified Tikanov Gen. 5 Nuclear reactor/generator. Discard lead shielding. Use Honeycomb monocoque chassis as a Leyden jar to provide starter current.-$3.5M Russian Rubles: -8 oz.

Total: $4M or so. I think I'd be reclassed, though...

Last year at K&E the 911 was at 2175lbs.
My goal is to bring it under 2000lbs.
That will probably mean running in a different classe, like EM.

If really you want to change your German allegiance to the P car the 1973/1972 911 is a good start for a light weight car. The 914 can also be a very good track car. It's pretty easy to drop a flat six in there and turn it into a track beast.

That is my current plan. Buy a 914/4 and run it in CSP + track events for a few years with the 4 cyl and then drop in a 6 and convert to SM2 for autocross and continue to do track events.

I had two different 914s when I was in college/first married. The need to have a "six" has never gone away.

There is a 914 sitting on the side of the road in Cary on 54 about a 1/2 mile from the Golden Corral the meetings are at with a for sale sign on it.... Looks like it is in rough shape, but maybe worth looking into....

As much as I would like to look, I am going to force myself to avoid this. Rough 914s are usually not worth much (other than a parts car and I already have one of those) as they usually have rust problems. These are the pre-galvanized steel bodied cars. It is not if they have rust, but how much.

I am also pretty much going to have to wait until I pay off one/both of my existing cars (sometime next year) before I buy the 914. :(

Nothing against 914's but check out rust VERY carefully (ditto for any older car)! I watched a friend literally cut his in half at the firewall so that he could splice a new back half on it.

See also the recent GrassRoots series on a 914.
