For those of you who haven't yet figured it out, there was Russian collusion at Autocross #9 last weekend. In October of the Julian Calendar year of 1917, really November on the real calendar, a new nation arose now known as the CCCP using the Cyrillic alphabet and the USSR using the real alphabet. If you were in an airplane flying over our event, you would have noticed that CCCP was spelled out on the runway. So far, I hope that you understand why the Soviet Union failed and why the course was like it was. The general policy of the CCCP was to exile all Russians who are cheerful, fun loving, and happy in an attempt to sow the seeds of our destruction. The course was designed by our native Russian, Nickolay Milovanov and his Commissar Rob Keener. The course started with our favorite sweeper allowing you to gain enough speed and slip to enter a very fun lane change followed by a tricky series of slaloms. The turn around was made purposely vague to give one an opportunity to screw it up in multiple ways. A few slaloms and small sweepers followed, egging on your speed and keeping you busy until, Uh Oh, you brake hard and cut right quickly and then dash left across the tarmac into the communist conspiracy of a walled in pivot cone followed by a strangling gate and quick left finish. Did the Russian succeed at leading you on and then decimating you at the finish? Course Designer Nickolay wins the “Cone Killer Award” with 9 taken out. Does that make you feel better?
To summarize the event, Andrew Pallota took fastest time raw over a Chaterham 7 and the fastest time pax as well as winning CS with a time of 42.684. Go to THSCC.COM for results. Tony Chow followed him with a fast run in CS of 44.924. DS was won yet again by Francis Chan with a time of 46.449. ES was hotly contested with a large field of 10 Miatas. Chris Kirkland won with a time of 44.811. FS was won as usual by Art McDonald with a 46.3. Close on his heels were two very fast Camaros. We need for more Chevys to show up so people don't think that we're a Mustang club. The GTI's took HS with Patrice Bousquet winning with a 44.779. In HS Sam Dougherty of Triad showed up to teach our THSCC regulars that they are not the only fast Civic SIs in NC. HS was special this weekend, we had an MG Midget, a BMW 2002, and an MGB fighting it out for the “Glory Days” bragging rights. The year long STR feud finished with Steven Carter in first with a time of 43.806 over Carlton Whitehead and Bart Craig. CAM class has proven this year that six cylinder Mustangs can kick their V8 brethren handily. CAM was won by Duane Black with a time of 45.941 over fellow V6 competitor George Paraskevas. Pro class was close with David Spratte edging G H Sharp for a winning PAX time of 35.558. We entertained a very large Novice class of 25. My thanks to all of those that helped out with ride alongs and instruction. Jake Nicholas took the prize with a PAX time of 39.305 in a C5 FRC Corvette. Alex File was second followed by John Joyner in third. For many of our Novices, this event represents graduation into open class next year. This year's Novice group has been very fast and eager to become faster. Welcome our Novices into open class. You, ex-Novices, will see yourself improving because in open class, the competition drives you to become faster. THSCC thanks Novice Coordinators George Paraskevas and Thomas Middleton for their hard work and the innovative way that they ran and improved our program throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you at our Christmas Party in December and at the Autocross events next year. The details are still being worked out on the Christmas Party, so keep a lookout on THSCC.com and FaceBook. Thank you all for a great autocrossing year!
