THSCC returned to Cary Towne Center for their second points autocross event of the year. It was a GOREGOUS weekend for the event, with sunny skies and moderate temperatures. Patrice Bousquet and Keith Roberts designed the longest course we have ever had at the Cary site. It utilized the usual two lap format for the first portion of the course, followed by a fun, sweeping second half of the course with a tricky thread the needle finish. The day started off with a barrage of DNF's as people found the course, but thanks to our novice coordinators as well as many other experienced drivers, we were able to help pretty much everyone find their way. With a whopping 36 (!) novice entries, Thomas Middleton and George Paraskevas almost got car-sick by the end of the day.

We ended up with a grand total of 124 drivers who all got 4 runs at the course, with time for about 36 drivers to take 2 additional fun runs at the end. Andrew Pallotta took FTE (Fastest time EVERYTHING) in his C-Street ND Miata with a blistering time of 45.846. The top 3 FTP read the exact same as the top 3 in C-Street, with Michael Miller eeking out the win over GH Sharp, showing that the NC's still have something for the ND's. Course designer PAtrice Bousquet finished 4th in PAX, the only FWD car in the top 10 of a field dominated by Miata's (9 out of the top 13 times PAX). In the raw results, Steven Carter turned in a strong raw performance in 2nd place, but just like the rest of us, still lost to a stock Miata. Kenneth Butron showed some speed in his SM Lancer Evo IX with a strong 3rd fastest raw.

We saw some REALLY cool cars out at the event, including an 800 whp 1970 Chevelle with a turbo the size of a basketball. Despite all that hp, the car moved amazingly well on course with John Pisarik wheeling it around until a coolant leak did it in (although it was repaired by fun runs). Jose Domingos piloted his beautiful 2008 911 Turbo to a 5th place novice trophy while Jeff Szymczyk took the win in novice in one of two Focus RS's to attend.

Come on out to our monthly meeting Wednesday 4/12 at Randy's pizza. THSCC returns to autocross May 6th for our novice school, followed by points event #3 at Danville on May 7th. This months featured sponsor is ApexPerformance.net, a long time supporter of THSCC. With the new helmet rules in effect this year, they are a great place to find SA2015 helmets as well as any other racing gear you might need including seats, harnesses, suits, and data acquisition equipment. My congratulations to Patrice Bousquet, a competitor with a front wheel drive Golf GTI, who with the help of Keith Roberts, set up the best damn Miata course ever. Six out of the top 10 raw times where held by Miata's followed by a couple of STR S2000's, an EVO, and a MazdaSpeed 3. I don't expect this to happen again for a very long time. There was also a lot of opportunity for high horse power rear wheel drive cars to have a lot of fun. Yee Ha :D
