FYI per my data I was at full throttle about 2 seconds and nowhere near full throttle for most of the course. Not exactly a power course or a WIDE car site. It was still fun. :D

Video with data. https://youtu.be/g5KrgMEUoBg

Vertical blue bar is throttle percentage. Red vertical and horizontal bars are longitudinal and lateral g's.

Tires are Bridgestone RE-71R 275/35x19 F & R. Shocks are Koni. Stranoparts rear anti-roll bar. Exhaust is full factory quiet.

Video and Data are Race Technology.

That was a great course today, and the food court in the mall was great too!

Will the next event have us driving through the old sears section of the mall in a Blues Brothers-esque fashion?

It was a blast, I see I took first in Street Prepared. I'm pretty happy with that for a first time out in the new to me Miata. I think there is some time left in her.

I had a good time. It was my first autocross in around 7-8 years. I got to catch up with a number of people as well as put faces to names for a few new ones. It was interesting to get back in the saddle again and in a totally new car. The Fit was fun enough, not particularly quick and I didn't roll it! ;) By my third run, it felt like the cob webs were gone. I dropped another 1/2 second during fun runs, and know there is more time to trim but... the narrow (185) generic all weather OE Firestone tires are not up to the task. Once those tires are done I will put on something better. At least I didn't embarrass myself. All clean runs and within shouting distance of those in front of me.

The event looked to go really well from my perspective. I hope this can become a regular site. Hopefully those who ran the event can share their perspectives soon. I know Brice was talking to the number of waivers signed (large number of spectators). Thanks to everyone who made this happen. :)

I suspect running an event at this site brought a lot of positive attention to the sport and the club. Hopefully we get some members and more people wanting to do autocross from this.

I have a feeling we likely won't have this site long, maybe only until they find a tenant to replace sears. Hopefully i'm wrong though, there was some bugs in the grid initially but it seemed to go fairly smooth after a little bit despite the cramped space.

The course actually wound up being longer than I thought it would be, I was expecting closer to a 30 second course but wound up being a high 30s low 40s course.

Other random comments...

* Who was running the drone during the event? I would love to see the footage.
* Speaking of drone footage... Do we have anything along the lines of a promotional video that is targeted at site prospects?
* Site cleanup seemed to go very fast.
* It was funny how quickly people started to park in the lot once the yellow tape was taken down (10+ cars within a few minutes?)

I think we should be able to run at Sears for the near future considering how big that retail space is. I think Chris and Brice were mulling over what type of establishments could rent out that space, and it was basically another retail "giant" or a gym (but there's already a Dave & Busters, so there would probably be push back on that).

I think that there's already a short list of ways to improve another event being held at the mall, especially in the logistics department. It was definitely a good first outing, but I think that our second and third times there should be significantly better.

Everything went GREAT! They are interested in working with us next year, we just need to figure out when some of our "anchor" sites will be available. Generally, I will rent VMP and NCCAR whenever they are available, considering how limited dates can be there. Then we can plan a variety of Danville, Cary, Fayetteville?, or Laurinburg (haha, probably not) as we continue to pursue other possibilities as well. Continue to keep your eyes open, I think Cary could serve as a great publicity tool as we try and pursue other local sites. Many of you may remember Ken George from some of our events along with his sons. He is a recently elected member of Cary Town Council and a great ally for us, along with the management at Cary Towne. They may want to bring some bleachers and publicity our way next year!

The video from the drone was from a local vendor, Benchmark Tool and Supply. They did agree to send me the footage once they had a chance to edit it. I'm anxious to see what they got as well.

Props to Rodney for suggesting the site and everyone else that worked hard to make it a safe and fun event. Pulling of an autocross at an active mall on a weekend day in Cary of all places is sort of mind boggling. All the swim meet parking and traffic probably didn't make things easier.

The course was great and really maximized the space we were allotted and even in a low torque car, never felt like 1st gear was even needed. Plus, the course really made you focus on your inputs and balance of of grip (front to back) at the elements at the top and bottom of the slope.

Having the fun runs was a nice touch too, especially to give many of the novices another couple of cracks at the course and get them hooked. 8)

They have flown their drone to provide my company with topographic data. The restrictions on those things are getting crazy too. IIRC, from our research you have to be an actual licensed pilot to fly one commercially for profit. The funny thing is, for our survey purposes there is no actual piloting of the thing. It's programmed and once launched, it flies a preset pattern, then lands all on it's own.

BTW, did the cops show up? Seems like every night event we had at the RBC center some local resident called the cops and they seemed surprised that when they showed up we didn't all scamper away F-n-F style.
