Thinking of selling the 'vette

So I was thinking of trading in the 'vette for a 2016 WRX. Thoughts?

If anyone's been looking at the differences between the base and the premium WRX, I'd be interested in those thoughts specifically. I like the headroom of the base without the sunroof but I'm not sure I'll miss the faster steering rate and inverted struts from the Premium. :-/

I had dirty thoughts about looking at a Focus ST, then I saw one last night while driving the Fiesta trying to show off and the torque steer about pulled him out of his lane. Then I remember oh wait, I have almost twice the HP and ZERO torque steer! lol

Obviously the WRX probably doesn't have torque steer, but going to a WRX from a vette seems like a pretty big downgrade. Unless you really just want something that's faster in AutoX, the vette is far superior in every way.

Also, with the new 6th gen Camaro coming out, the value on my car has been dropping like a rock according to KBB. So guess i'll be keeping it lol.

What are you planning on doing with the car? Are you going to get heavy into AX with it? Are you planning on keeping it stock? upgrading it to the fullest extent of what class?

Granted it was a miata, but I have had more fun pushing the 2014 sti then I did the miata. Fighting the front wheels can be annoying at times and I had some issues transitioning at first but I am back to making the same (more or less) mistakes as before.

In 2008-2009 I autocrossed '08 C6 Z51. I then bought a '10 Subaru STi SE to run at ProSolos. I had it for 2 years, but it felt insanely slow compared to the C6, even with 305hp and 295 lb ft. I think you'll regret the decision. - AB

Wow, you guys are awesome! I posted flamebait and y'all are trying to understand and make sure I'm not just being a moron!

So a bit of context that may help (and you're probably not going to like this too much either):
I'm working on moving to the mountains and will eventually (possibly anyway) be living far enough outside of town that transportation up/down mountains in the winter months may be a problem. The 'vette would just be right out in those conditions. I'm looking to move sometime this fall. I'll be something like 2:15 away from Danville after the move assuming everything goes the way I think it will.

I do plan to keep autocrossing. I'm uncertain about modding a WRX as I've not been into that previously -- I'm much more into just having a good time with what I've got. Although after reading what a stage 1 ECU flash can do... and how it makes the gas pedal more linear in power application instead of the silly "the pedal is halfway down but the car is applying 90% of available power" thing that gets done these days, I'm definitely considering mods... at least the easy ones. A bit worried about what I'd need to do to make the car competitive if I do flash the ECU, but I'll deal with that later if it even comes up.

Do my thoughts make more sense now? You're still welcome to call me crazy :-)

Just make sure that you get one with the new FA motor and not the EJ25.

Worst idea ever.

If your really moving to the mountains buy a beater for snowy weather. Is Highlands SCC still running events in the mountains of NC?

I actually somewhat agree with this. Pretty much whatever you do to make a competitive autocross car will be poor in the snow.

Best Idea Ever. As a person who like both cars with a lot of horsepower and no horsepower, if you are having fun with the Vette, keep it and do the beater thing. especially driving in crappy weather.

If you really don't get that much of a kick out of driving the Corvette, then think about it but make sure you are jumping into the car you want

Mark, You need to think about this. Repeat many times, moving to the mountains and I own a corvette. A lot of us drive our wonderful handling cars to the mountains to get the most pleasure out of them. You’re moving to the mountains and you’re selling the Vette to buy something that will push around every fantastic corner. If I were you, I would buy a beater Jeep and then you would have the best of both worlds. When I had a jeep, I would enjoy driving some of the old logging trails in the mountains. Yes, they are good in the snow. I really thought that you were a smart guy?

Why modify the ECU? The car is already the Car To Have for DS.

The EJ25 in STI form (stock and aggressively-modded) has known issues, but my specific experience with my 09 WRX (58k, owned since new, no aftermarket engine tuning) has not borne that out. yet.

I own a base model, and the only thing I can add is :
(1) stereo is poor
(2) hard plastic interior bits
(3) roof noise during rain can be pretty loud because it's an empty cavity absent the sunroof components.

Don't buy a new car if winter mountain driving is your main concern. Like others have said, buy a beater AWD and keep the vette.

(In an unrelated note, my WRX is always for sale. New tires, Bilsteins, front bar. Jus sayin'....)

I agree with the beater part, I bet AWD subies can be bought pretty cheap. 4x4 trucks around here are like gold and even old ones go for 4k+ beat up. You might be able to find something though, but I bet a older outback or something can be had cheap and make a good winter driver.

I agree with Steven, give it a chance with stock power (plenty of it!) and have fun in D Street, especially when you consider the fact it's the top dog right now. Toss on a set of Continental DWSes and nab a set of cheap, light wheels to toss on some Bridgestones for autocross duty.

Not sure why but I think the new WRX is a gorgeous car, probably because it has somewhat of a sleeper look it, especially in black.
