Glad you understand how this works Scott :D

It was all part of our scheme to win the club cup, to schedule a Hurricane to knock NCR out of the competition.

But at what price? Looks like we killed the Rubber Duck race too :(

Ironically we'll have some good courses. We are very well prepared. Perhaps the delay will allow me to work on some other extras.

Regardless I can't control expectations vs reality. I'm still trying to find that sweet spot in a sport where you drive slow...but not too slow, but also not too fast.

I'm looking forward to driving your horrible courses when we get the event re-scheduled. I suggest that on the Sunday course, we replace the stop box with the deadliest course element ever devised: the CMSB. (Cage Match Stop Box)

By contrast, I've loved doing rallyx. With the exception of a few non-members from DC, no one takes it all that seriously. Yes, there's a competitive spirit, but people don't whine and not show up. I've been doing course setup and running timing for 2+ years now. For those that have never seen that side of the equation, that's real work (and that's still not all of it.) There's a train load of stuff that goes on behind the scenes so people can show up, drive, and go home. In fact, getting out of the bus to drive the course is my relaxation.

(And, no, this is not me volunteering for rallyx VP. That's a level of mess I don't want.)

Seriously. I see far far less bickering and pettiness in sprint racing where there is a decent chunk of change up for grabs between tires and end of year cash from Mazda.

It really is unfortunate, I just do it because I get to drive the car at it's limits of grip and have some fun. I don't understand how all these idiots get so worked up over driving around construction cones, lol.

I'm pretty good at just ignoring it and having my fun though, that's why i've mostly stayed out of it, because I don't really care as long as I get to drive. This is probably also why I would likely never have a desire to do national level stuff, i'm just not that serious about it.

This may not be a popular observation...

I was curious so I was reading the roadraceautox.com thread. The "fake" course map with the stop box was (still is) posted on the MSR registration page. And as much as many inside and outside of the club have been total dicks over all of this, I do think having that course map up on the official registration page was an unnecessary trolling of those who were already upset. I will say that sadly we deserved at a minimum some amount of the grief due to that. It's hard to claim the high road when doing something like that.

Wish I had thought of it................. will I somehow be blamed for this transgression also?

Thanks Brice for posting the new date. That should work for me looking at my current schedule. Going to need tire warmers for that event!

I did it to prove a point. Even if Hermann Tikle designed the course these trolls would come out and complain because he was a THSCC member. The course has no stop box ok. It will be a fun course and if it dose not live up to your standards...fine. I am sorry.

In my opinion, you screwed up.

It made me embarrassed to be a TH member.

Yeah, you guys took some serious crap that wasn't fair and wasn't deserved. But that as the retort? Two wrongs don't make a right and all that. You shouldn't have done it, plain and simple. It was completely immature.

It's the kind of thing you WANT to do. It's the kind of thing you joke to your brethren that you SHOULD do. But it's not the kind of thing you ACTUALLY do. That rrax thread is evidence as to why. Read it and see what LONG TIME members of the club said about it and not just what the haters said. Hell, it made *me* want to do the event and affiliate myself with Highlands or something.

Yeah, it was that bad.

At this point, I really think the best thing our club can do is to continue to communicate via Facebook, forums, and email to show everyone that we're serious about having a great event. We should break 180 entries each day if the weather's good as the season winds down.

Kudos to the THSCC auto-x staff for getting the new date quickly.

We did run an event at South Hills mall when it snowed on us.

I've been with THSCC for 15 years now and I've never seen the club in this state before. With the NCAC overall issues, then the course maps and now some internal member bickering, we need to reconsider our position. With our fragile image, we have no choice but to take the high road, be professional and give ourselves a chance to heal. As for me, I'm kinda done with all the drama, so I think I'm signing off for a while....

Matt we have a site plan similar to what others are producing. I just have two areas each day I don't want to fully map before hand because I have to dodge drainage grates. I can't drop by the site easily and get a measurement. I think CCR has an event there I may ask someone to pace it off for me so I can add it to the model. Steven and I have gone over this stuff, and this includes worker stations. I think more important at this point is grid to run smoothly, I will use the extra time to map that out.
This is one of the things that bothers me the most is assuming our prep level is really low. Quite frankly I don't really want to share our(Steven and I) courses before hand at all. I'm certainly not interested in feedback of making changes because someone doesn't like an element or we can make Sundays longer . I don't think that is fun, and the only reason the pestering is so much is because in the past we have done a bad job.

Generally when I know I'm setting up I make a sketch and estimate distances before arriving on site. Coupled with notes you can setup quickly and be safe. This last event I offered to help but never got a response back from anyone. Rob L called me and asked if I was still going to help like Thursday. We showed up with nary a sketch on a napkin. I think laying out a course this way shows a low level of competency and other clubs are much more serious about this. If you cannot pace a course and estimate a speed within 10 mph, I think you need more experience before given the full reigns. This is where knowing general course guidelines from SCCA\NASA is a big benefit. If someone can't even produce a sketch and pace off the layout they need to be told no.

Roger Johnson did write a very good manual and I have looked through it in the past. Overall there is nothing more in depth to teach course design. I do think it's a cause of some real group think at this point too. We should in December make sure we have a 'party' and get some people together who may want to design next year. We can look at some key rules and concepts to train some of our club these skills that have gone lacking.

Hopefully next year when some other club can do it.

Donnie I get the feeling that you have an opinion and could be helpful. But do you come to events or help organize anymore? You certainly don't seem to have any confidence based on this quote. I keep hearing this long time members thing over and over again. I only see their handles on the Internet. When teaching course design as a skill people need hand holding and lessons of experience from these long time people.

Robert Plank and Art are my favorite long time members. They always do a great job with timing the job truly few want.
