I didn't look at the sticker, but I think they are a ~$1500 option.

Correct: $1595

The cloth versions save about 10 lbs per seat compared to the cloth power seats. I decided on standard seats since loooong drives to/from major events are part of our autocrossing and because the 15's standard seats are very comfortable and supportive.

Not a Camaro or Mustang, but I have an appointment to look at this tomorrow, sooner if he will let me.

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/4915921936.html

Needs some work. I just read about the strut tower "mushrooming", but it looks like it can be beat back into place using a block, then BMW makes re-enforcement plates for the top of the struts to keep it from happening again ($20 a pair from Turner Motorsports). I figure I will be installing new struts soon anyway and will probably have to replace bushings under there too. New sets with control arms, if it needs them, are not too expensive. Are there any local shops or places that can repair wheels?

I saw this post as well. The front end suspension parts as well as the RTAB's are some of the usual suspects on an e46. The ZHP is a very sought after version of this car. 5 grand and some parts and elbow grease should net you a nice car. Not aware of anyplace local that does wheel repairs.

If you need work done, then please see Dave Davis, BMW mechanic extraordinaire in my book. I have his number.... He's always treated me fair. He can probably help you get the sunroof fixed. Sounds like a bad cable.

Thanks for the advice Rodney. I am itching to see this car before it gets gone. Walked away from a $3,000 97 M3 that popped up yesterday afternoon. It was cheap, but the rear quarters were rusted out, had overheating issues, worn interior etc. Still sold in within a few hours.

Reading the Craigslist ad made me depressed too. If you buy this, try to spend as little time as possible with the seller. Good grief, that's no way to sell a rusty 1992 Buick Regal, much less the ultimate driving machine.

Aren't these the camberless wonders that destroy front tires? I guess if you run in a class that allows suspension mods you'll be OK. Talk to Chuck or Keith about that.

Autocross is the plan. I have been looking at 330i's, this one just happens to be a ZHP. If the price is right I figure I can live with some front tire wear. The trouble is, almost every car I consider, except Camaro, is strut based on the front, lacks camber, and is going to be hard on front tires.

Jordan,

Assuming stock/street prep the S197 Mustangs are allowed per the shop manual/rules to slot a strut mounting hole and get close to -2 deg neg camber. With tires like ZII's and 35 - 40 psi the shoulder wear wasn't bad in my limited experience. I'm sure guys with more experience with the S197's can add/correct.

I guess 4th gens don't have struts then? 5th gens sure do.

That is correct. Due to the fact there is an adjustment allowed per the factory manual makes it a legal mod for stock class to slot the strut for camber adjustment.

Jordan, if you are running stock/street class, you will have lots of understeer w/ that staggered setup. You can run the same tire on all 4 wheels, but no way to rotate tires. If you run STX/STU, then you have tons of options....

Both sport and ZHP 330i's have staggered wheels and very limited camber up front. Are they really that bad an autocross car in stock form? Good to know the Mustang's lack of camber can be addressed in Street since that is where I plan to play, at least in the beginning. I have not ruled them out yet but the 330i's are appealing at this point because I am finding them to be a lot less expensive than S197 Mustangs which appear to fetch $8k or more. Plus the 330i has 4 doors and the wife likes it.

Want to stay stock now for comfort and reliability plus there are a few regulars that run in FS. I miss being in a competitive class.
