Some interesting items put out for membership discussion in the July Fastrack for ES.

Item 2 Move Porsche 914 from CS to ES
Item 3 Move Z3 4-cyl from CS to ES
Item 4 Move 94-97 Miata from CS to ES

Hmmmmm.....

If you don't know what Fastrack is, you should. :D

edit...it hurt to just to write Miata after hearing all the whining from miata owners.

Yup.

Looks like ES is going to get a bit crowded.

It will be interesting to see what happens with those suggestions. I'm sure it will be a giant bloodbath of internet comments about moving the 94-97 Miatas to ES. Moving the 914 and 4 cyl. Z3 to ES is a no-brainer since the MR2 will still be the car.

I think it would be a toss-up or course dependent on which car would be better between the Miata and MR2. Every time I drove Jonathan Roberts MR2 against my 1994 R Package, I was always faster in the MR2 and Jonathan was always faster in the Miata...pretty funny. At least it would open up another very affordable car to autocross.

It is under the "SCCA Garage" menu item on the main page. Here is a direct link...

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Other interesting items (some are up for member comment)...

* Effective 1/1/2005, move all AWD vehicles to STX. I guess this means no more Subaru RS in STS?

* Effective 1/1/2005 Some STX specific allowances (camber kits, bump stops, disable of ABS and Traction control) will be applied to all of ST*.

*Hankook Ventus Z212 may be ineligible due to 13.3.B rule (tire must be available by 4/30).

* Pirelli P Zero Corsa is to be added to ST tire exclusion list.

* 14.10.C should read "C. Exhaust manifolds and headers may be replaced with alternate units that are emissions legal" AND "Street Touring: Relocation of the oxygen sensor on the header is permitted under 14.10.C". Does this mean that cars with integrated header-pre cat, can switch to aftermarket units with no pre-cat if they pass emissions tests?

OK, I'll start the whine :) How much of a real difference is there between the 1.6L Miata and the 1.8L? Is the 12hp increase make up for the 168lb weight penalty? Does this include the "R" models? It would seem to me that there was a reason for the class differences. :?

Just asking, after all differences are probably due to driver quality

The "R" models are included, that's the problem. Torsen diff, and other good R goodies.

R's also come with a slow manual rack don't they. I can't see that being Ideal since I used to drive a manual rack with slow ratio. It'd be a handful on a tight autox course.

A well set-up 1.8L Miata v. an identically prepared 1.6L Miata (with equal & competent driver) will always win. There is a pretty decent difference by autox standards between the two.

I raced a 1990 1.6L for two full seasons and then a 1994 1.8L "R" for four seasons. The manual rack is not that big of a deal once you get use to it. But, it does make each run more of an aerobic activity :-) The extra hp helps as does the torsen and stiffer springs.

I still think the 1994 R is competitive in C Stock, it's not strong enough to win, but can still trophy solid with a good driver. The cool thing about all Miatas is that all they need to be rocket fast is an exhaust, front bar, and Koni singles.

Ummm... yeah, and I just bought another RS to prep for national competition in STS next year. Silly me... what was I thinking planning a year ahead?

Well, I guess the 100 hp advantage & 245 vs. 225 tire width that Tom's WRX has over my 2.5RS is not really that big of a deal. Hey, maybe I should sell the RS, then buy a 110 hp 1.8L Impreza AWD and make it even more interesting!

(my letter has already been sent - guess what I told them? )

I think that it was a stupid idea too. The 2.5 RS has shown to be appropriately classed. Why not just create a spec Honda class if that's what they want to do

I don't know the ins/outs of how this came about. But apparently (according to those on the Yahoo ST list) that this was brought up before and was not a popular idea. I actually would be suprised if this goes through. I also think that the 2.5 RS is currently classed correctly.

I also didn't see it myself in the fastrack but I saw a post somewhere about the STX wider tire allowance coming to STS. The theory is that heavier STS cars might be more competative against the old Honda Si if it has more tire to work with. I can tell you right now, that with my Honda (not THE Honda to have in STS) that a larger tire is not going to be the hot setup due to the extra rotational weight.
