Yeah. I think Patrice managed to make a little something for everyone. Most importantly, I think it gave the new novices a really good taste of the sport.

It was a good event yesterday with an excellent turnout. Got to test the theory that more people at NC CAR = more runs for everyone.

I loved that course. Especially heading up the hill into the left hand sweeper back down. The gates were really well places and flows, without feeling like they were just there to be "in the way." Very nice job.

I short shifted to 3rd gear coming out of the box looking feature heading into the big left hander approaching the "straight." I wasn't full throttle for all of it, and needed to lift or brush the brake to get the car to tighten up its line, but it was nearly full throttle on my best runs. No idea how fast I was going since I short shifted, but it was plenty fast.

That five done slalom at the end seemed unnecessarily slow. Lots and lots of cones were hit there. Making that last five come slalom a four cone would have helped a lot.

I think the best I managed was a 1:08 or so raw, with a cone in the slow slalom at the end. That felt pretty good to me, but the cone kicked me to the bottom of X class.

I'll absolutely make a point of going to the NCCAR events anytime we use that format.

Enjoyed the event and course. Learned stuff. Trick to the 5 cone slalom was go slow and give them lots of room.:-) I think the only cones I hit were when I almost spun in the offsets before the pivot.

That was a fun course, since I design the course I cannot really complain about it….
Here my fastest run, it was my 1st run, seem that the more I was trying to go faster the slower I was going.

What a awesome event! Good turn out and great weather! The course was technical but very fast! Can't wait till points #3!

So here is my fastest run of the day which got me 2nd in CS.

Yup, there were lots of areas to push it hard yesterday, THAT was not one of them.

It was a great day running around cones!

Video of the FTD driver vs some other slow guy. He had me by 0.5 secs right after the third cone, then kept more speed through the chicane to be faster through the downhill lefthander, adding another 0.5 secs. Better (ie, shallower into the box with better braking setup as he was going through the chute) into the pivot added probably 0.5-6 secs as well. Too bad my OBD connection got loose and I had no data, but on the other hand the differences were so obvious as not to require granular data analysis to detect the differences.

edit: Apparently James has trouble counting to six...should Amazon be worried?

Hair raising last section before the slow slolum...which was way too tight. Otherwise I found my way to an awesome time on my last run. I hit a cone so hard on my third run that I popped my bumper out. Nothing a few washers, bolts, and clay bar can't fix. I was hitting 70 plus through the "wiggle" before the hair pin turn around.

Man, I was hoping you'd just trim right after crossing the line. I knew this would come up :). I was going to do the '1' with my pointer finger but the thumb went up too...I blame dehydration and adrenaline ;).

What is wrong with your brakes? Also the PCV valve for the K24 is not the same as the AP2 one, sorry.

I'd be interested in seeing my 5 vs 6(7th ;) ) run side to side. I got really loose and did a lot of countersteering on my 6th run so I think there was time left somewhere that I might have done better on run 5.

Running the gear calculator on my car I run out of 2nd currently at 67mph and could do that well before the straight, so yeah in third I was deep into the 70's. I don't know if that is a great idea or not.

Conversely, today at a VMSC event at VMP I hit one a cone on 4 of 6 runs including what otherwise would have been my 3 fastest runs.   However, all but one of the cones were in a Chicago Box where missing the cone meant going slower. The other cone was "just greedy" in a moderate speed slalom. Seems like I should have practiced what I preached this morning when I posted the above before my runs at VMP.

The speed isn't the problem, speed with quick side to side transitions is the problem. We can do 60mph slaloms but it needs to be kept on the VDA where drivers have room to recover before they get in the dirt. The road does have some crown so slaloming in the center can get interesting.

The last slalom was fine, people's focus fades at the end of the run and they refused to slow down. The course had everything it fully exercised the car with slow stuff and speedy stuff. I saw drivers like Art and Chuck getting through that slalom very quickly in big cars. The key was not over driving into it and driving close to the cones. Many times it was the 3rd 4th and 5th cone getting hit because people drove in to hot and got behind.

My last (and least slow) run Race Technology data shows low 70's just before the pivot cone braking zone after about 57 at the end of the "Fiat Straight/Mustang Slalom" before I went to full throttle for 2 seconds. The distance appears to be about 200 ft. The braking distance was also about 200 feet to go from roughly 71 to 15 mph in about 4 seconds.

Interesting comparison between NCCAR's course constraints and the much more open but BUMPY VMP site. Except for the one medium slalom and the Chicago Box on the VMP site there was a lot more room to "play". Plus even with good shocks (Koni Sports) the Mustang was very "lively". Conversely there was really no room for anything other than a "thread the needle" line on the narrow but smooth NCCAR course. Both are extremely "valid" and fun courses. Just different . . . at least in a Mustang. My top speed at VMP today was just under 60 . . . mostly limited by the bumpy pavement through a high speed lane change. With NCCAR pavement or a supple suspension it probably would have been flat out all the way with maybe another 5 - 10 mph.

Video later.

I felt the last slalom was fine. Like Rob said you just had to slow the car down and accept that it was a slower section. I did feel sorry for the workers there

Over all it was a fantastic day! Great course, great weather, great folks..... it just doesn't get much better than that!
