Gmaps says its about 2:10 from Cary, 1:50 from Durham, 2:20 from Greenville.

We are considering an event there in June, just trying to send out feelers to if people are opposed to the drive for what looks like a pretty nice site.

We live near I-540 and Leesville Road in NW Raleigh, VMP is the most convenient "large" site, especially since the mandated late start on Sunday's allows us to leave home at 6:30 AM, stop in Creedmoor for a quick McD's breakfast, get onto I-85, tow below the speed limit, and still arrive at the site by a little after 9 AM. The drive home even in typical Sunday traffic is also easy.

"Real" bathrooms are nice also.

Even better, even though the pavement is bumpy for stiff cars, the pavement does not create SAND!

All that said, DO NOT speed by much in VA. We see a lot of people getting tickets.

Dick

FYI:

NASA has an event scheduled for Feb 2 at VMP (Feb 9 is the "snow date).

http://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1762

They need a minimum of 50 entrants. At the events I've attended turnout is low enough that there are lot of runs.

I'm registered with the Mustang on all season tires. Too cold at best for the FF.

I remember it being a nice site and it seems like we were able to use the on site restrooms. Not much shade there as I recall. It's a long, boring drive, but I'll make the trip.

I'm going on 2/2. 1:45 from my house - same as Danville.

45 minutes from my house. :D
It's a good site, and I'd love to see The cccome up.

No.

I'm bummed that I can't make the event on the 9th to check the place out for the first time. :(

It wasn't too far away when we ran there 10 years ago. We'd lose some folks due to the distance, and pick up a bunch of visitors from VA/MD/DC. It all balanced out.

It wasn't a whole lot farther from Durham than Laurinburg.

Ouch, 2 -1/2 hours for me. Never been there but if it has some nice real estate it would be worth going to. That said I doubt I make the June event. Pam and I are taking a 2 week road trip to go hit New Mexico, Arizona, Vegas, Yellowstone and any thing else that we can fit into the trip. I'll make another post about the trip later looking for points of interest along the way.

I think it's worth it for a one off event per year. I think we can get a big turnout too. I've been several times in the past.

Here's some inspiration

Image

DON'T do a late crossover like this map shows. Man I learned a lesson that day (near head-on collision when Eric P caught up with someone slow!) Yeah we even made shirts too :)

Image

VMP, great memories of running at that site with VMSC and a SCCA ProSolo. Really cut my teeth on car control there...
