The only class That makes me want to leave STR. Now that 600cc bike engines are approved, I would expect that all 500 and 600cc cars that are GCR compliant for F500 are now also compliant for FM. Of course, will be checking FasTrack for confirmation.

Searching for cars begins....anyone for co-drives?

The more I look the more mod class' look like fun. FM or DM/EM look to be super inviting.

Yeah...so it doesn't help to look at YouTube videos of GSXR600-powered formula cars. OMG, the awesomeness of 12000 rpm right behind you! Soooo much better than 2-stroke snowmachine engines, even with the 32mm restrictor on the 600cc engines. Turns out the FMod online world is pretty thin, so the project will be a couple of years' worth of shopping around and researching.

Someone else's almost finished project or 2-year old completed project is probably the right way to go vs doing my own de novo conversion.

Edit: sample inside http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xjjx72LvZCc

Does this make FSAE cars F-Mod then? Sorry, don't know the rules on mod classes, but FSAE cars are 600cc motorcycle engines with a 30mm restrictor. Having driven a [poorly setup] FSAE car for autocross once, I can tell you its an absolute RIOT. I took 2nd fastest time of the day, and my codriver took FTD at Rocky Mount. It was awesome. This would have been circa 2000 or 2001 I think.

FSAE is specifically classed to AMod. GCR-compliant F500 and F440 cars are FMod, along with Dwarf and Legends cars.

Steven,

Have you looked at this subforum on ApexSpeed? ApexSpeed may be the best source of open wheel info and advice in the US. They even get posts from the UK and Australia and New Zealand.

http://apexspeed.com/forums/forumdispla ... ysprune=-1

Be sure to expand the "threads showing" to "beginning".

There are people in the business of converting F500's to F600 and renting for track use.

The Atlanta group (Jim Murphy, etc.) are also very experienced autocrossers in F500 so they could be a great source of an autox oriented F600.

At the Solo Nationals FSAE is run as a separate class. PAX this year is FSAE 0.989 . . . tougher than KM but less than AM's 1.000

I wonder if they intended the Nova F600 Blade to look like another red car. First the Nova:

Then that other car:
