So I dreamed of this autox last night. I can't tell you the last time I've had that much fun at an autox. Funny thing is we had to change the format, so sort of a combo between split and run at once run groups. Everyone drove twice and everyone worked twice and I didn't hear the first negative comment.
I want to say thanks to Sam True for allowing us to run on the track and get a taste of circuit cross. Sam really wants us to set something like this up again next year. From what I saw yesterday, we won't have a problem getting people to attend.
I do want to say thanks to Sam, Zach and Marcus. Sam was kind enough to get his John Deere gator out and help us throw out cones on the track. Zach and Marcus set up the track while I was tossing out cones. I did have a little input.... if you liked the curved slalom, that was me. A little different and that turned out to be more challenging than I thought. Excellent job Zach and Marcus for setting up the course!
It was funny to watch this whole thing evolve. We had set the cones out on the VDA as usual and we had somewhat decided to do a "figure 8" setup. We had maybe a forth of the course setup. I was talking w/ Sam when he mentioned if we'd like to change it up and setup on the track. I remember not believing what I had just heard so I asked if he was serious. He was. I called over Zach and Marcus and told them of Sam's offer. Our concern was course workers. If we did this everyone would have to work twice. OK.... Let's do it!
We had everything setup by 5:30 including testing. Bus placement was perfect in regard to start and finish for the timing equipment. All we had to do now was hope for the best the next day.
Next day: All I heard was positive comments. I spoke to Shawn that morning and he was shocked not to see the course setup on the VDA and was thinking we were a bunch of slackers. He was grinning pretty good when he saw the course on track. BTW Shawn, nice driving yesterday. I drove my 3 for all it was worth and I just can't catch you.
I want to thank everyone for following the rules yesterday and not being stupid on the track exit. Thank you so much. Sam was very happy w/ our performance yesterday. We have an excellent relationship w/ NCCAR and you helped keep that relationship in good standing. I also want to again thank everyone for working double shifts. Without your help, this event wouldn't have happened.
Thank you all!
So this is my last and best run. All I could manage was a 65.8. Damn that was a fun course....
