The 5 minute rule is dumb.

Why? There have been times I have had 3 people in my car. I use the five min rule every single time. It's just poor practice not too IMHO

3 People
5 Runs
5 Minutes

= 75 minutes not including queuing time for start

I think on Sunday we started around 10:30 and ended just before 1:30 and had 3 run groups. I'm agnostic when it comes to the 5 minute rule and any spill-over. As far as I'm concerned, all 2-driver cars are on the honor system when it comes to grid.

Getting the car to operating temp and keeping it there is best for it.

It's also a good way to make super soft Hoosier tires that suck after a few events the spec tire.

Unless you have a car that doesn't like high oil temps....

One additional suggestion that might work regarding STO: the second work assignment could be a follow along for the purpose of training someone in one of the more intensive work assignments like working the grid, start, or T&S.

This past weekend was kind of an anomaly, especially on Saturday. Pretty much in every heat I couldn't find a reliable name for either Grid or Start because they had a volunteer assignment like raffle related or cooking. I think I had to give 4 or 5 people a run down as to what Start or Grid entails, and when you're just trying to keep cars at the line, edge cases don't get brought up.

Sunday was a bit better because we did 3 run groups and we had a larger pool of people to draw from.
