Right so I have this Nissan Pulsar, circa 1986, that I am having some trouble classing. It is a car built many moons ago for SCCA racing in ITC. We are pulling it from the weeds as the family is high on drivers and short on cars. I am hoping to run it in Fayetteville this weekend as a bit of a shake down before I take it on track at VIR in a few weeks. Here is the build sheet....roughly
Engine:
Mostly stock 1.6 liter-IT does not allow many internal engine mods but it likely has been blueprinted and probably a home fab port and polish, maybe a modest bore at the most. All of which are legal in IT.
Header system and pretty large exhaust which stops just behind the drivers seat, no cat, just pipe.
one-two barrel Holly carb.
Some kind of after market oil cooler and filter relocation pieces.

Suspension:
Hyper-charged shocks on all four corners, along with some kind of much harder than stock springs.
I'm betting on at least polyurethane bushings everywhere, maybe even heim joints, just a guess though, no way to tell. (cant see)
Camber plates up front.
front top and bottom anti sway bars, stock in the rear.

Chassis:
mostly stripped interior, doors and dash remain, full SCCA legal roll cage.
Fuel cell
Racing seat and 5 point harness.

That's basically it. This car was built years ago and is, and I am not kidding, legendarily slow with the crowd who has been around long enough to see it run. It is super cheap to run though as a result. Very good learning car, teaches momentum driving. the engine recently got a refresh with the hopes of fixing this thing it does where every time you turn right the car stops running, until you stop turning right, then it picks back up like nothing ever happened. Like I said, I can't seem to find a class for this pile and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys

With no interior and not a spec car that might have a listing (like Spec Miata used to move to DSP, but must comply with all SM rules including the spec tires), I would select the appropriate Mod class. I don't know off hand what it should be, but my guess is EM. - AB

E prepared due to the interior being stripped. I think it'd be SMF legal if it had an interior (though the back seat can be removed).

Awesome! thank you. I was thinking prepared but I was not sure, almost filed it into SMF but couldnt decide about interior, the dash is there and the door panels, glass, regulator is all there. But great! I am not worried about CRUSHING THE COMPETITION! Cause I won't I just don't want to make people mad. Thanks fellas
Edit- Ill be running on 10 year old RA'1s. idk if that makes a difference, but they are R compounds.

Page 91 of the rulebook:

Quote:
Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current Club Racing Improved
Touring rules are permitted to compete in their respective Street
Prepared classes. Neither Street Prepared nor Improved Touring cars
are permitted to interchange preparation rules. Improved Touring cars
may use tires which are eligible under current IT rules even if they are
not eligible in Street Prepared.

If it meets current IT specs, then it's legal in street prepared. If it's a 16v or turbo motor then DSP, otherwise FSP.

Oh yeah, I resent the dinosaur remark. I had a drivers license when that car was new, so that makes me...

Damn it :(

Hey Blair, I assume you're Justin's brother?

If you're short on cars, could I interest you in a certain gold 1989 4-door Acura Integra that you may be familiar with? I bought it off Justin for parts when I was racing an 88 Integra, then eventually realized I had enough pieces to put a complete car back together. So it has a freshened engine (head work, HG, rings, and bearings) and new KYB shocks, and the interior has been gutted but has stock seats, decent all-season tires. Starts and idles great but won't make power, I suspect a sensor or distributor. And still looks like a piece of shit.

I'll sell it for any offer over scrap value. Or, if it has any sentimental value for you, then the price is $500.

You need to volunteer for course set up and create a course with no right turns.

Wow, My elementary school gym teacher had a brand new white Pulsar. That car was soooo cool with those louvered tail lights.

Back in Rocky Mount growing up my friend got a shinny red automatic Pulsar for his 16th birthday with 12" JL W6's that you could hear a three blocks over. I was slightly jealous.

I've seen it and I can vouch for that. I'm pretty sure I've seen this car *slowing down under full throttle* going up the first hill of the north course crossover at VIR. Maybe there's another ITC Pulsar somewhere in the SEDiv, but I doubt it.

No problem. We just need a left hand turning, down hill course this weekend.

Wait, there are cars that don't slow down under full throttle on hills? :o
