This is now the Novice School Instructor thread, you got a problem with that?

There is a Novice School on the 2nd of March at Danville, VA

You can sign up for the school at the Tarheel Sports Car Club website

I'm going to assume we need instructors, so I volunteer.

If you want to Instruct, add your name to this list Google Doc

Craig for autocross VP 2014!

Yes, we did talk about this at the meeting last night, so instructors volunteer here. instructing gets you into the event the next day for free.

What's the student:instructor ratio we are looking for? 3:1? 2:1?

We have aimed for 2:1. Last 2 years we were probably like 1.7-1.8 or so and inevitably, there will be Novices who progress quite rapidly and don't need as much seat time with an instructor so this is usually fine.

I'm willing but I don't know how to work the google doc. What is the format, do I need a car or is it mostly riding. Instructing in a Full Size pickup might make things too exciting.

It works just like Excel. It is mostly riding. You can use my car if you need to give rides

I need to sign up as student. I still can't drive that #%!? Vette. Since I know that nobody wants to sit in the passenger seat, I signed up as an instructor.

Mike,
I'll be glad to ride shotgun and yell at you. :sing: All that predicated on you mentally practicing using that throttle smoothly as a weight transfer and rotation device. If Les was here, he'd be the one to ride along and yell I guess. Bernie or Rob too.

I signed up to instruct since, as of now, "I think" I'm free that weekend. Do we have a package of some sort that can be sent out to novices as they register to read up? Links perhaps or whatever. I can't imagine starting out autocross and actually having someone with experience help me. In 1976 nobody knew what they were doing...

Ok sounds good.

Instructing basic skills is the most important thing. I think if people understand how to choose a line then they can be competent drivers. But driving at 100% sometimes it's best to just show somebody what to do. A good ride is the most eye opening thing for a decent driver to make real breakthroughs.
