are the season passes transferable? could I use them for next year?

Unfortunately they are only valid for the points events (with the caveat above) in the year they are purchased. The Jimmy V event and schools and TnT and special events are not included. For people who are instructors at the Nov School or EV Challenge who have a season pass, the registrar will be happy to refund you $20.

Is there a reason they can't be expanded to cover all events at $20 apiece? Would add extra value to being a club member if it did.

It was talked about a few years ago and the consensus is that the 'extra' events are not set in stone and things could happen such that they are cancelled etc. If a points event is cancelled, we'll go to hell in high water to get another event rescheduled. If the former scenario is to occur, then we have the pain of reimbursement etc etc and we'd like to avoid that. Basically the season pass represents a groupon: a way to get us (THSCC) a large amount of money, relatively quickly, early in the season for various expenses that might be needed (bus repair etc), a way to reduce bookkeeping later in the year by the registrar (payment wise and registration wise) and all the while giving club members a 20% discount on a subset of the autocross days.

If we have 9 events we'll have to decide the question of whether half of 9 is 4 or 5. Qualifying for season points will depend on the answer.

I support a rephrasing of that requirement to read something like "more than half of points events in one season" as this gives us the necessary leeway given an odd or even number of points events.

The issue is that to qualify for season points, you have to have competed in 1 more than half of the season's points events, which in a 8 event year is 5. So does 4.5+1 = 5 or 6 (floor or ceil). This will be discussed.

That's my point. "more than half" rather than "half +1" means 5 events, whether 8 or nine total events for the season, and eliminates the half-event scenario, since an explanation on how to manage odd-number season events is not provided in the by-laws (or is it?). Maybe some of the old-timers know why it was phrased that particular way?

Gotcha, I thought you were implying 'more than half + 1' not just 'more than half'

There's a reason I scheduled the first weekend in March back in November. . .
