James you must have driven in a crazy manner to get such poor highway mileage in a Civic??

I only had that car for 12k miles and in that time I never took on on a full cruise control road trip where I got to maintain speed for a reasonable amount of time (going to zMax for NCAC was met with over an hour of max speed 20mph traffic on 85 so those numbers are meaningless). Anyway my daily commute is 4.7miles at 35mph stop and go. Anyway, plenty of SI owners got near 30 on multi-hour cruise control trips but that car has a 4.76:1 FD ratio and a 11:1 compression engine so it isn't great on the highway. The best I got was on a very modest cruise on a cool morning to VMP without the car full of race tires/tools and I think that was 27mpg over 200 miles.

I get about 20mpg in the E46 on my same work commute and on a 240 mile round trip to Charlotte and back with some stopped traffic, I averaged 28.6 mpg. The gearing on this car is very long and I find myself staying in 2nd and 3rd gear way too often around town.

Here you go.

Apparently drivers of low powered cars really do thrash the heck out of them and get worse gas mileage than if they had a bigger engine to start with. I've been saying that for decades, mostly of course to justify getting the bigger engine , but it's kind of nice to see it backed up in reality.

Speaking of fuel consumption, is anyone else on Fuelly or any other aps along those lines? I've got six fill-ups on the Fuelly and it's a pretty cool little program. https://www.fuelly.com/driver/utilitarian/integra

-Matt (can't get away from cars that average low 20's)

PS: sorry for the hijack and just to bring it back, is anyone running Rivals this weekend?

I know it will depend on on the manufacturer and demand, but has Tire Rack been good about meeting "Estimated Availabilty" dates in the past? The Rival is at the top of the list to replace my NT-01's, but it is not scheduled to be available in my size unitl 4/5. The car needs tires now, but since I will miss Danville on the weekend of the 2nd due to a wedding, I can wait a little longer. I would like to have them installed for NCCAR 4/14.

John, Do you have any first impressions of them yet?

Mine shipped today, so I can't say. I have to miss our TnT due to helping my brother move, so I won't have any real data points till points #1 at Cherry Point the 31st of March.

Wait....you've got a schedule? I just checked your site front page and forum, and there's no update. Anything available so I can pencil in some dates?

Jordan,

I talked to TireRack about the availability dates and was told that "BFG is very accurate with their dates in the past" and that they update availability dates by size as times goes on (275/35-18 went out a couple of weeks further into the future which is why I called them). He said those dates come directly from BFG and will change if BFG changes their availability plans. Whether or not this proves true, I guess time will tell.

I'm in the same boat as I don't know what to do for the first part of the year as I can't get Rivals in the sizes I need (275/35-18, 295/35-18) until early June.

Just that one. Lets just say this is a trial by fire learning the ropes. Good ole Military time isn't as fast as civilian time

I was planning on running 225/45/15's on my 8" wheels, but it looks like the 205/50/15's will be available on 2/27. I was thinking the 205's might be a good back-up plan in case the 225's get pushed back, but maybe I should just go with 205's. From what I am reading, it looks like this tire wears very well and tolerates heat since it is designed for both autocross and track. Do you think the bigger is better convention applies here, or should I choose the 205's?

Just a data point. When Ram went from 205/50 Star specs on 6" wheels to 225/45 RS3s on 9" wheels, there was a BIG increase in performance/handling. Not sure if it is was going to a more square setup or the the extra near inch of tire.

With Miatas, you run as much tire as you can on the widest wheel you can. The current miataturbo favorites are a 205 on an 8" wheel and a 225 on a 9" wheel.

so my stupid question of the day is I guess we now run "RT" instead of "TIR" for letters this year. I saw a mix of both. Does it matter from a T&S stand point now that this is the same class?

Technically we want to see RT on the cars, however we are going to give a year grace on this. Starting in 2014, TIR will be deprecated.

Pretty sure it has more to do with 3" of extra wheel width and then secondarily a better ratio of wheel width to tread width. 205s on a 6" wheel is over-tired for street tires.
