Unofficial Points Standings after Event 8

I've looked this over and it looks right, but make sure you all double-check it. Only person who has to choose a trophy is Rob Lupella, who can choose between second in CSP or second in SS.

And apparently I messed up my what-if analysis of SSM in the last standings thread. Looks like I misread a 4 as a 9. I think this is the first time I've blown an analysis, sorry. :oops:

The classes are in alphabetical order, not category order. This shows eligibility by number of events run. It does not take into account member status.

Wins, seconds, and thirds are taken from only those events that are counted for points, as per club rules. A DNF on all runs is shown as 0 points, as it scores no points but does count towards trophy eligibility.

E is the code indicating status, and is as follows:

Is there a minimum number of events to compete in the year-end standings? And how are drivers in novice class handled?

Novices are handled . . . . poorly. Nominally, they have the same set of rules, except we kinda of encourage people to move up frmo novice if they are beating everyone, so its sort of confusing.

Correct and to clarify. Only you're best 6 runs are counted, but you need a minimum of 5 for year end trophies.

The rules say you have to compete in at least one more than half the events to qualify for a year-end trophy. With 8 events that's unambiguously 5; if we ever did 9 I'm not sure what that would mean. (I wrote the program based on half of 9 is 4.5, and therefore you have to do at least 5.5 events to qualify, and since 6 is more than 5.5 and 5 isn't, it would require 6, and that's how the "qualifies" flag is set in the standings all season long -- but the matter of an odd number of events in a season is for interpretation by the board if it ever came up.)

"Compete in" means start a run. If you DNS, you haven't competed. But if you DNF all your runs, you score no points but it does count to the year-end event count -- you'd see 0 points for that event in the listing above for that case.

The Novice class doesn't count for year-end points, but it does count towards the minimum number of events run. So if you did four events in Novice and then went on to compete one other events in a regular class, you should qualify for a year-end trophy. That's why you might see someone who appears less than 5 times in the points still qualify for year-end.

(My program actually calculates Novice "standings" along with everything else to make it easy to count the number of events run; I just don't print that out at the end since there are no Novice points as such.)

To peek into a can of worms while trying not to open it... What I can't take into account in the program, because I don't have that information, is that technically the only events that count are the ones while you are a member. So if you joined the club halfway through the season, events you did while not a member shouldn't count.
