I might need to take the 2 out again for autocross and try to convince somebody to take a burst shot of lifting up a wheel.

Have you looked at the STF build information on Hollis Racing's facebook page. That pretty much seems to "solve" the wheel lifting . . . probably with lots of ride comfort and $$$ expense however.

I have read a lot of what Andy Hollis has written about building up his Mazda2, and he's an awesome guy for keeping it public. It also helps to have the pockets of cash that he does, too!
