Registration is now open for the Grand-daddy of Seat-Time Events! "The 24"
http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frm ... 8&psmode=3

Start at Noon on Saturday September the 1st and end promptly at Noon on Sunday September the 2nd.

The event is broken up into 12 hour segments. For each of the 12 hours registered, the participant must work 2 hours. These work shifts must fall in the corresponding 12 hour segment. If registered for 24 hours, you must work 4 hours total. 2 hours must be worked in the first 12 hours AND 2 hours must be worked in the second 12 hours. Work assignments will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVE on site at the event during registration.

Each participant will be able to make as many runs as they choose in whatever car they choose(as long as it has passed technical inspection). However, each participant is only allowed 5 Official runs. Official runs will be called by the participant as they pull up the start BEFORE they make their run. These runs can be made at any point throughout the 24 hours of the event and do NOT have to be first thing or consecutive. Official runs MUST be taken in a car that meets the criteria of the class in which they registered in.

If there is a mechanical issue a participants vehicle, the participant will be allowed to compete in another car. If classing changes need to be made, that can be handled(please do this at an open registration period). Previous official runs may only be counted towards the new class if the previous class is eligible for the new registered class. Official run count will NOT start over. The participant only has the number of remaining Official runs to take, but is still allowed to do as many runs as they choose unofficially.

"The 24" this weekend was my first 24 hour event and it was a blast. The weather was great. We had just enough rain to cool things off and give us a little variety in our runs in terms of traction and help us appreciate the dry surface that we had for most of the event. The course was fast (to me) and very similar to the course that Triad ran at Dixie earlier this year. This was the first event that I have left not wishing that I could make just a few more runs. I finally got my fill. The venue was pleasant, with good places to camp and pit and real bathrooms and covered stands for spectators. The event was well run and the ice chests full of cold bottled water out at the worker stations was nice touch, particularly at an event this long.

Jordan Normark had 3rd best RAW time of the day and 1st place in a very limited SSM class.

While not particularly noteworthy, I managed to improve on my usual back of the pack finish in TIR to a middle of the pack finish 6/12 in TIR.
My goal was to lay down at least one of my 5 official runs with a time under 50 and I managed to get a 49.5 on the books so I felt good about my progress.

Jim, Thanks for the co-drive, I'll bring a couple of pillows so I can reach the pedals and steering wheel next time  49.5 is a nice improvement.

Jeremy, I appreciate you letting me drive your red rocket. You and Steven drove the wheels off that car on 300 TW tires none the less.
I must admit I want one now, but then we might have to change THSCC to THS2KSCC, and that's just too long for short sleeve Tee shirts.

I think we should consider doing a "24". There is nothing like laying on the cot at 3 AM and listening to cars on course and following them through in my mind based on the engine sound. It really was alot of fun.

I had 3 official runs left Sunday morning and tried to blow through them back to back so I could get home. I managed to break into the 44's on one run, but I was so exhausted I forgot to call "official" at the start! I did not even realize it was not official till I crossed the finish and saw the time. At that point it really was time to go home.

The 24 was a blast! It's (obviously) a very unique event format, and I will most certainly be attending again next year. I think the entry cost came out to something between $0.50-$1.00 per run (I lost count somewhere past 40), so it was well worth it for the seat time.

Carlton and I were over a second off STR pace in my S2k, but that's to be expected when you bring a knife to a gun fight (Continental DWs vs RS3s). The RS3s had a clear advantage over any other street tire, since you could get as much heat into them as you wanted before doing an 'official' run. I had 4 official runs in the evening, and then proceded to put down my fastest time on an unofficial run at sometime past 4:30 in the morning (a 47.0xx). I never did get around to taking that 5th run.

The best part was how willing everyone was to swap runs in their cars. Thanks to everyone who let me drive theirs: Kurt, Jordan, Steven, Jackson, and Mike. It was really interesting how similar Jordan's Miata and Kurt's Elise drove (both AWESOME, btw).
