I would assume that ST* isn't too far behind. Good thing Jeremy and I are already planning on going Z1* :). Granted, you know Hankook and Toyo will just restamp the RS3 and R1r with a 180 if this happens.

180's the minimum, right? Are the Toyo's & 'Kooks below 180 now?

I just checked and the kook RS-3's are 140. Why in the world would they want to bump up treadware? Makes no sense unless they want everyone to buy new tires. Don't think the manufacturer would be ready for this by next year and I for one don't want to buy new tires considering the amount of tread I have left. Just now have these tires broken in! I really hope they leave ST# alone....

So James, where did you read the info? Fast tracks?

Well I will say that our "Tire" class != SCCA Road Tire so we can roll (no pun intended) with 140+ until ST* classes move in that direction.

Also the fasttrack implies that ST won't be following in RT's footsteps.

Quote:
Effective immediately upon publication, after consideration of member input the SEB has amended the specifications for
the Road Tire supplemental classes such that the minimum treadwear rating is 180. (7918, 7945, 7953, 7986, 7995, 8004,
8014, 8020, 8026, 8030, 8032, 8051, 8083, 8100, 8115, 8214, 8283). The SEB believes that a higher treadwear rating for
RT than for ST is consistent with the differences in levels of preparation.

Not sure I exactly understand their reasoning since RT isn't a prep level any more than Ladies is.

As if the RT and Tire rules and proposals already didn't make my head hurt...

Although I do think RT classes at the big events aren't a bad idea, we (or other grassroots clubs) couldn't pull it off though IMO because we'd be watering the classes down even more and that's not something you want to do when you only have turnouts of 70-90 locally.

I think it's in our interest to keep Street Tire at TW 140 which closer fits to the layman's definition of street tire.

I think the issue is that the SCCA has is that the RS3 is basically a racing tire. As far as I can tell it was created by Hankook as a cheater tire for the street class in Time Attack. I'm not sure if this is a hamfisted way to stop street tire classes from becoming "Rcomp with tread" classes. If the manufacturer can keep the TW over 140 I don't see a reason to penalize them for making stickier tires that are able to last. It's not like TW140 means any more wear than it did last year.

I don't know how much I believe it because our RS3s have more than 100 runs and other than the outer shoulders, have lots of tread left. No more or less than I'd expect from Star Specs for instance at 200 TW.

But yes, I think we'll be keeping our club Street Tire class in line with ST* classes, not RT.

My front Z1* are from the WRX last year and have close to 150 runs. Still above the wearbars, but may be getting a little hard (as is the rumor for these tires when they reach the final 3-4/32s or so) I see no reason for stratifying the tires between the two Street Tire classes, but the mind of the SEB is hard to understand. It will be interesting where the TW ratings of the tires in 2013 will range.

OK, so do we need a vote club wise? Let me start out by saying I vote to stay w/ the 140 treadware for our tire class. Now that said, I wonder what the other NC clubs are thinking.

Rodney, its only a democracy for choosing officers. Once elected, this ain't a democracy anymore. Its an oligarchy. The prez and two (maybe 3) VP's vote to keep it the same, so it is so.
