Has anyone asked BMW or Michelin about their testing facilities?

Michelin site is awesome, though it has some idiosyncrasies too, not the least of which is several thousand bucks a day. CCR and SCR are sharing an event there on June 16th. They're only doing a one day event this year. Usually they do two days. I'm just guessing that money is a factor.

If much of the objection is distance, some of these sites like Michelin/BMW while great are farther away than any of our sites that we have left are currently. Is the problem as much the cost rising or getting completely kicked off the site? Maybe we should just raise dues to pay for increased cost of site rental.

there are at least two distinct groups that autoX with THSCC.

(1) AutoX'ers

(2) everybody else.

AotoX'ers will pack two days in advance and travel across the country if they have to for a taste of that which they crave.

everybody else gets up Sunday morning and drives about an hour, 75 minutes max to a site where they can screw off for the day and have a good time autoX'ing.

:whoknows:

You are wrong. There is 3 groups.

(1) AutoX'ers - Typically cool folks - They are good at a sport and want to pursue it at a high level.

(2) Everybody else - Typically cool folks - They just want to have a good time driving their car on a Sunday, nothing wrong with that.

(3) ex-autocrossing trolls - Typically stupid folks who tried autocross and were bad at it. They will try to convince groups 1 and 2 they are stupid for pursuing their hobby as they choose. They try to convince folks involved in hobby, on a forum named for that hobby, that their hobby is stupid. You might as well go to church and try to convince the preacher that the bible is stupid. Not sure what folks like this get out of the whole experience :whoknows:

I usually have a pretty high tolerence of even these trolls I mean, stick and stones and all that, but it is really uncalled for to drop F bombs on a public forum. I guess it just goes to show how out of control and childish they are.

Semi-public forum, one might even say private since it is membership specific.

If I'm a troll Shawn I'm an old troll. The fact that anything I have ever said here could possibly be taken personally by anyone speaks more to how truly un-cool and uptight some folks that participate in said amateur sport act.

Passion for a hobby is one thing, sniffling and crying troll because somebody cracks on that hobby is unhealthy addiction.

BTW, what would you say the percentages are for participation among these now three groups?

Well that really isn't good news for me, since I live like 20 minutes south of that site. NCR actually had this same issue earlier in the year and had contemplated moving west a little more. There was some discussion about trying some sites in the Fort Bragg / Fayetteville area but I don't know where they ended up. I think their was a lot of resistance to going across I95 to be honest. I know the Crown Center (grid coord. 35.016070 -78.893987) was suggested and one place I had though about was the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds (grid coord. 35.128517,-78.960854). The Fort Bragg Fairgrounds may be reaching a bit but the Crown Center maybe viable. I could possibly ask around post and see if I can dig up a POC for the fairgrounds but I don't want to step on anyone's toes here.

Please dig and post up!

I know that NCR is still actively pursuing the Crown Center and also sites near Goldsboro and in Lumberton. I can keep you guys posted of any updates or you can contact Chris.

BTW another date was set for little washington for June or July. I don't remember exactly, but expect to see an official announcement soon.

The BMW Performance Center track(s) are an awesome place for an autocross. I've been there three times in the past for autocross events held by the Sandlapper Chapter of the BMW CCA. That is the catch. ONLY the CCA is allowed to use the facility and only BMWs and Minis are allowed to be driven at those events. BMW provides workers on course for cones (it's a huge course that's totally unworkable for typical autox workers and BMW would never accept that liability of having people out on the course anyway). So the only way to drive your own car there (BMW or Mini) is to be a CCA member and also a member of the Sandlapper Chapter. :(

Steve,

It seems to me like you do have a tendency to complain about how we run the autocross program, but you are also not an active participant. I always love to use these moments to ask people to step up and participate as officers. Don’t just complain, do something about it. This is a volunteer organization.

Also, you also seem to like to poke people with a stick on internet forums. Including coming here to brag about how you have pissed of someone at some other forum. So in my opinion you have a tendency to be able to dish it out, but not take it when it comes back at you. This does nothing but create drama (maybe for your enjoyment).

And yes, you are a member like anyone else on this forum, but it also doesn’t mean you can just say and do anything you want. You typically walk the line on a regular basis and if you do it enough you will step over it. I think some of your comments over the past few pages are either right on the line or just over it. That includes foul language and passive aggressive comments directed at individuals. Pushing the envelope all the time does add up.

So to take your own advice “Lighten up Francis”. Please try to move from “pushing buttons” to “constructive criticism”. Consider this a warning. Keep it up and I will put you in time out.

Everyone else,

We use PHPBB 3.x. I think when the developers implemented 3.x they planned to put in place a system to allow people to ignore people. That is the “friend/foe” system that Steve mentioned. I will read up on it, but I “don’t” think that functionality is totally completed. If anyone happens to have personal experience with it, let me know.

I will agree with a comment that Steve (and others) have made and that is that I personally would probably be more likely to try to get back into autocrossing if there were more locations closer to the Triangle. I know that sites are few and far between and that all clubs nationally are struggling to keep old ones and find new ones. But I probably would likely spend some extra money if for example we might be able to have events at the RBC center (or whatever it is called now). I don't know what the right balance is regarding high cost/local vs. lower cost/remote and impact on participation and also making it financially viable.

It works. View someone's profile and then mark them as a foe. Then all their posts are hidden by default. You can click to show a hidden post.

Has anyone tried contacting local chambers of commerce? They may have a message board or list serve we could post a request for large parking lot rental.
