A lot! They also wanted some other safety items in place like an Emergency Action Plan and EMS on stand by IIRC.
I still think it would be worth it to look into setting something up within the Triangle area. I know for a fact that some clubs only have 20-30 people show up, and that other clubs have entry fees that average around $50-60 dollars. I like autocross, and it is cheap fun (at the expense of an entire day); however, we need to seriously consider premium locations at a premium price.
A $50 entry fee at the RBC center is nothing, but we would have to convince other people that it would be worth it:
- $25 (member) or $35 (non-member) entry fee
- $15-25 in gas (e.g. - round trip from Danville)
/!\ $10 premium/convenience charge (can't have your cake and eat it, too) /!\So on the low end of things: $40 dollars for a current member to go up to Danville and back.
On the high end of things: $60 dollars for a non-member to go up to Danville and back.
In either scenario, it brings the total cost for both members and non-members closer, and there is a lot of appeal to not having to drive 1-1.5 hours one way to drive around on an airstrip. To say the least, I'm in the camp that would be fine with paying $50-60 to run at a location such as the RBC center because I'm paying close to $50 right now to go autocross at our current closest site.
