I think the reality is that we may need to be willing to spend a bit more for our sites. Very few places around are willing to rent out their parking lots for just a couple hundred bucks anymore. With higher gas prices, that obviously places a premium on close sites, but also places a premium on people's nice new asphalt parking lots, so we may need to pay a bit more for them. With that in mind, we will be looking around to see what we can find. We can potentially start looking west of here, but I'd like to avoid that, considering where our club originated. I've got some suggestions, and I'm always interested to hear more. Keep em coming.

So does this mean the July event is DOA?

This was to be my son's first AutoX.

We will hold an event, its just not clear where at this point. Most likely candidate is NCCAR, but nobody book a hotel or anything yet.

I know I'm in the minority currently as I've been traveling a lot recently to get to events. That being said, I've met lots of folks in different clubs that are doing exactly what was mentioned earlier...splitting the cost of sites with different clubs and making it (usually) a two day weekend.

Coming up over May 28th SCR and CCR are splitting the freight on CMP for an autocross there. I heard last year that it was a blast.

If someone wanted to try something different, going to this might offer up some ideas for us. I know they are only charging the regular rate, not anything inflated.

Sanford was a site that I had to come to terms with, but I really hate to see us lose it. There just aren't that many places remaining locally for the sport that I love.

What a bummer, I didn't love Sanford, but did love its location and hate to see any site go as I know how hard they are to obtain. At least is isn't another major back injury of a club member.

This may open a Pandora's box, but have looked hard at membership rates to see if they need/should be increased? I only ask this because we can only raise event entry fees but so high before people who are not members lose interest. Strictly IMHO, I would support a dues increase in order to constrain site costs and keep entry fees under $40 for non-members.

It looks like Southern National Motorsports park is up and thriving with late model racing. http://www.snmpark.com/

I sent an email requesting information about possibly renting the site although it looks like they a super busy almost every Saturday and they don't seem to schedule anything on Sundays, which might be a good thing for us. It just opened almost two months ago. http://triangle.news14.com/content/top_ ... is-weekend

If they're interested in picking up some revenue on a few Sundays a year I'll keep everyone posted. I agree with Brice; if we have to pay Greenville-type rates for a closer venue we can take the chance for higher attendance.

Sounds like a good prospect, but there could be no Saturday setups. They usually have practice and qualifying Saturday afternoon and the races go to midnight.

I still think it would be worth it to look into setting something up within the Triangle area. I know for a fact that some clubs only have 20-30 people show up, and that other clubs have entry fees that average around $50-60 dollars. I like autocross, and it is cheap fun (at the expense of an entire day); however, we need to seriously consider premium locations at a premium price.

A $50 entry fee at the RBC center is nothing, but we would have to convince other people that it would be worth it:
- $25 (member) or $35 (non-member) entry fee
- $15-25 in gas (e.g. - round trip from Danville)
/!\ $10 premium/convenience charge (can't have your cake and eat it, too) /!\

So on the low end of things: $40 dollars for a current member to go up to Danville and back.
On the high end of things: $60 dollars for a non-member to go up to Danville and back.

In either scenario, it brings the total cost for both members and non-members closer, and there is a lot of appeal to not having to drive 1-1.5 hours one way to drive around on an airstrip. To say the least, I'm in the camp that would be fine with paying $50-60 to run at a location such as the RBC center because I'm paying close to $50 right now to go autocross at our current closest site.

I'll look into contacting the RBC. Miles, Mike W, you had spoken with them in the past, could you maybe PM some info on what we would need to do? I see frm the other thread that there was some definite legwork that would need to be done there.

Also, James, what is this auto auction you saw? Location?

Anybody know what this is?

Brice,

what about the failed Randy Parton theater up near Ronake Rapids. We pass it everytime we go to NCCAR and it's right off of i95. Anyone looked at that as a likely place?

Last I heard it now belongs to the City so I guess they would be the contact point.

Lots of news stories about the possible sale of the theater but they keep falling thru. However, there is an active hotel on the grounds and the parking lot is pretty small.

Vincent, any new signs at the old Nichols on 301 in Wilson?
