It's EV autox time!!!
I was on a 45 min conf call yesterday w/ Eric Ryan and some of the other EV challenge event folks. Looks like it's going to be a repeat of last year, but wanted to start getting some focus on this event. So a few things we need to consider....
> bus. I was able to co-drive w/ Jordan last year and drive the bus up, but now we have 2 separate cars. Could someone help getting the bus to the site? Not sure what time, but based on last year, I'm thinking 11a should be good. I'll confirm the time.
> New this year is the 1/8 mile EV acceleration test, ok, drag race against the clock. To be held Sat afternoon. The EV folks would like our help w/ this from a timer perspective. Should be simple to set up. I would hope we have enough cable to pull this one off.
> autox. Like last year, the autox will be from 9-11a. Quiet time from 11-noon and our event starts at noon. So, things to consider... >> track setup for the EV autox and our autox. Need a safe and short EV course that's easily transitioned into our main course. 25-30 sec course for EV is fine >> need a course walk of the EV drivers at about 8:25 and a drivers meeting around 8:40 and cars off at 9 >> I've asked that the schools perform a safety tech of their cars and check for tire pressures, wheel bearings and loose crap in the car. >> need to consider reversing the course and allowing students to exit off of the track and not off of the VDA like we did last year. Easier to push the car up the access road on the track. >> Eric would like to see a stop box considering the exit speed of some of the EV cars at the last event. Please consider this >> need to consider overlap and keep this as safe as possible for the EV drivers >> EV drivers will have one of our wrist bands to note they have signed off on our waivers. >> First run will be a practice run and we'll offer instructors for the FIRST RUN only. After that, drivers are on their own on course. >> expect 13-15 cars, so plenty of runs. >> will need T&S setup to track times. I think we did this last year and offered a final spread sheet to the schools. They REALLY liked seeing the end results. Eric would like trucks and cars separated. How would you like to mark the cars?
> volunteers: This is where I need your help. Saturday. Help w/ acceleration test setup. Will need just the timer setup. I think myself and 2-3 others can knock this out. Since the bus driver and EC's will be on site, I think we'll be good. Saturday afternoon, course setup by EC's Sunday. Need volunteers to help work the EV course. Maybe 10-14 folks here plus T&S. 4 on course and a starter for the first hour and then new folks the second hour. 2-3 instructors to ride w/ students on the practice runs. Just rotate to the next car and be available to answer questions.
As always, any volunteers will receive free entry to the autox on Sunday. This, unfortunately, will not count as a worker assignment. Still need your help for the normal autox.
Entry cap on Sunday. I think we'll need to cap like we did last year at 100 to allow for the truncated time and the possible entry of some of the EV drivers in our autox.
I think we're off to another great THSCC/EV autox for 2012 thanks to your help!
@ Chris Suich. In talking w/ Eric, they'd like to see the Leaf do the EV autox. You're expected to set the fastest time, so make us proud!!
