Keep in mind 17x9 with 255mm tires will lightly rub the front fender liners without at least -2.5 to -3 degrees of front camber.

FWIW, I at the TNT I rubbed lightly on the front passenger side but not the drivers side. Ride height is 13" hub center to fender (about 3/4" lower than stock), and I have -2.4 driver side and -2.6 passenger side of camber. It appears that the only thing rubbing is one fender liner clip. I think with 17x9s rubbing is just going to be a fact of life. I don't expect it will do any damage, just have to replace the clips every once in a while. It does not appear that the tires are coming anywhere close to the actual fender.

I'm also excited to hear this. It's going to be an awesome class this year!

Here's a decent link with some good FSB information with sizes for the different manufacturers. http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/351694- ... ge__st__25

I'm probably going to just run with the Eibach 32mm bar as I'll be on stock suspension so I'm hoping a larger bar will help much like one bar keeps things planted similar to a softer stock classed car on stock springs. Two way adjustable and $177 shipped, what the heck? I have a feeling this will be one of those add-ons that you can feel instantly even on the street without speeding.

My Hankooks are dangerously cooked from the Test and Tune setup day and the Star Specs (never ran them before) are going on tomorrow at Premium Imports. The last really good street tire I ran was the 615 Azenis on the Integra so I'm psyched to have one that decent in the rain & sticky enough for autocross day. A brake flush, trans/diff change, and that's it. I'm looking forward to Danville but we need a lot more Novices to sign up for the school. BTW, don't forget: free seattime if you're an instructor.

The Star Specs will fee like r-comps compared to the RT-615s. And they don't heat cycle out after 4-5 events.

We have the same problem with my car in stock class trim. 245-40-17 Hoosiers, on wheels that are the SCCA-legal 1/4" further outboard than OEM. I ended up carrying a dozen of those clips with me to big events. It's not a big deal, really, but the fewer of those clips that are in place, the more likely that hitting (or running over) a cone will damage the entire fender liner.

Also: keep an eye on the rubber strip that runs along the fender lip. You guys might be okay, but I've torn mine up a couple times. The just-right circumstances can cause you to just barely rub that and even knock it totally off of the car. I've replaced mine twice, both after events at Fedex Field with lots of elevation changes.

Rear sway bars are legal in STR, aren't they?

I ask because I ordered the Eibach 32mm front bar, but I think they shipped me the full front/rear bar kit instead. I was looking at the stiffness specs on the rear bar to see if it would be worth my while to swap it with the OEM part vs just returning it for the front bar. I don't want to be in a position of trying to sell just a rear sway bar for an s2k! I used these specs to come up with the numbers. (assuming my MY2002 is an AP1 110 series).

The stock rates of 53.6N/mm front and 73N/mm rear have a ratio of 0.73.

With the Eibach front bar on stiff (73N/mm) and stock rear bar, the ratio would be 1.0. I originally had this setup in mind, since this would have the most drastic effect to reduce the oversteer.

With the Eibach front bar on stiff, and Eibach rear bar on soft (90N/mm), the ratio would be 0.81. I'm tempted to try this setting at the first points event to see how much of the oversteer it would really reduce. If it's too understeery, I could always try the next setting...

With the Eibach front bar on soft (65N/mm), and the Eibach rear bar on soft, the ratio would be 0.72. Almost the same as stock, but with slightly more stiffness front and rear to hopefully keep the body from rolling so much, but still have about the same understeer/oversteer balance as stock.

Am I totally off base with these numbers or what? Ricer math much?

Carlton,

No one has the "right" recipe for STR yet. It does seem that people spring the cars to a natural frequency around 2.25-2.5, maybe a little lower in the rear. There is a strong prevalence against a stiffer rear bar, even in the face of adding a proportionately stiffer front bar, but that is usually seen in people using 650# or greater rear springs.

That said, anything that helps promote a softer rear and a stiffer front will help the car generally. You are quick out-of-the-box, so I wouldn't go throwing a boatload of cash on the car all at once. If you eventually pop for a shock/spring combo I think you'll find the rear too twitchy with the stiffer rear bar.

Put me in the camp of thinking a rear bar is a bad idea, at least on Matt's car it is

I've got a few prospects for a used Saner front bar and hope it works out with one of them around $200. Brice, the new Star Specs make the car feel a million times better and safer. Looking back, that was ridiculously loose and 'traction challenged'. ;)

I would have to agree, the S2000s I've driven have been quite loose even in stock trim, a bigger rear bar is just going to exacerbate that.

It turns out they shipped me exactly what I ordered, a front bar only. So that's what I'll install.

Split screen of zach and my runs from today's event. Zach's the white helmet and I'm the black one. What a fun event!
