Quick Questions:

1) Are the videos showing the course as dry as it got (i.e. two "dry" tracks)?

2) Is this course all the space currently available?

3) Kevin: What is the max mph for your second gear (since you shifted to third)?

Thanks,

Dick (fair weather autocrosser)

Here is a dry run of mine:

Kevin gets only like 55 out of 2nd on the STI.

That is about 90% of the space that Simon is comfortable allowing us to use (short of doing a circuit cross, which would increase entrance fees by a factor of 3 :) ). The amount of space available when they finish will be about 12x that area ;).

I would pay 3x to do a Circuit Cross at NCCAR.

+1! Plus it seems like a good gateway drug to lure autocrossers into the track program.

So I threw that number out of the air, but to make a circuit cross worth while, we'd need 50+ people willing to pay $75-100. I'm not sure what truly separates an autox from a track event insurance wise so we'd have to look into that too. We can look into it for next season.

For me, a circuitcross would be enough like a one-day track event that I would pay a fairly high multiple vs autoX entry fee to participate, especially if we got 5+ runs. Obviously, have to do the insurance check and rental fee math to see if it works, but I think it would be a great addition.

Yeah, Ram and I were aiming for low 35s or high 34s, so when we dropped into the 33s, it was a pleasant surprise ;).

I only get about 54mph out of 2nd gear at the rev limit, but I was short shifting around 50, and maybe hitting low 60's (it was about 2-3 seconds or so at full throttle) before braking and downshifting back to 2nd just before the slalom. 3rd gear only goes to 75, and 4th goes to 95, btw. Nearly perfect rally car gearing (I'd like for 1st to hit around 45, instead of 38, for a little more time before upshifts after handbrake turns).

I need to borrow one of those cameras at the next autox so I can have some videos to post. :D

Thanks for the "definition of dry run" video. "Much less wet might be a better description" Slicks on an 1100 lb car would not have been happy.

What safety equipment is required for a "circuit cross"? Or is it more like a FAST VMP autocross but without the BUMPS?

Thanks,

Dick (who can hardly wait until we get more space at NCCAR!)

When I did one with NASA on Patriot Course at VIR, there was no safety equipment requirement. They only encouraged you to get your car teched by a 3rd party though allowed you to do your own personal tech and sign on it.

Here's a video of the course from the new observation fort/tower that was recently installed out there. I'm pretty sure this was run #5 in the morning group @ 34.6

The crossover was really a hoot and the Si tops out second gear at ~57mph to give an idea of how quick it was coming through that section, even in a GS car.

Unless I'm mistaken, that sure looks like an old cargo container with sliding glass doors cut into it.
