BTW, I smell a competition (with some wagers) brewing here. . .

That brings up an interesting question. My initial thought is no driving of the Tesla if you are a novice, but welcome to ride. I'm not willing to take that risk on car that expensive w/ a novice driver. Stay tuned, I'm sure the other VP's will jump in here.

I can echo that sentiment Rodney. There's something that makes me uneasy about folks new to the sport doing fun runs in a rwd $110k car that doesn't isn't theirs.

I'd propose a full season of autocross experience to drive the Tesla if that's not too unreasonably harsh.

sounds reasonable to me Matt. I am afraid that if something was to happen to the car would they hold the "club" responsible????!!

maybe they should also bring some of that heavy-duty clingwrap to put along the front fascia and side skirts to repel cone marks...

Just some thoughts:

I like the idea of just intermingling the ride-alongs/drives in the Tesla with the competition runs. Gives T&S and/or grid a chance to catch up.

25 or less total drives/ride-alongs should be the limit (not 25 of each....not sure if that was the intention). Bracket races are pure profit (ie donation $$) whereas the Tesla ridealongs/drives have some associated costs, not sure the margin that the V Foundation will see but we don't want to extend the event too far and cause the bracket races to start too late.

The driver for the ride-alongs should be a decently competent autocrosser. Not sure the experience of the people who run this company, but if someone is spending $10 for a ride along in a sub 10lb/hp instant torque electric sports car, they probably want their guts to smack around in their torso :).

The whole liability/insurance issue has to be VERY transparent and laid out before drivers get in the car...both from the driver's side and the THSCC side.

That answer should be obvious.... the driver pays. This is like any other event where a driver borrows a car to drive. You break it, you buy it. Just ask Maria....

But, I will ask the Tesla folks for an official ruling on this issue as well.

Nah, that's only if you want to rent a Tesla for 2 hours for $299. $5000 hold put on a credit card required.

Quite certain that won't be the case at the autox :).

I'm sure if you just show up with the $5k in cash, they'll take that on deposit.

OK, some bad news unfortunately. I just heard from Jenn and there has been a change of heart in regard to driving the car. Jenn states their insurance will not allow them to autocross the car w/ unknown drivers. The best they can offer right now is the following. $10 for a ride in the car on course or $25 for a 15 ride on the open road. While this is not optimal, it still gets you introduced and up close to the Tesla roadster. There will be NO rides on Saturday, Sunday only.

Jenn will be on site Saturday scheduling rides as she can, but we may just have to wing this considering we don't know work schedules right now.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these are the only options right now. All of this said, would you be willing to take a ride? Remember, part of the money collected by the EVXP folks will be donated back to the Jimmy V, so we can still help w/ cancer research.

Let me know please!!!
