Are there a lot of student cancellations? The novice I'm bringing might cancel too.

If we don't have a shortage of instructors, I don't want to come.

The weather has been the same since Monday morning. If there was a problem then there was a problem then.

The course is setup and the pizza ordered.

This has been the forecast all week. There was a THSCC meeting on Wednesday where this could have been discussed and a decision been made at that time. It will probably rain, there will probably be some thunderstorms where we will have to suspend the event for awhile, but most likely we will have times where we have students running the course and building skills. Learning to drive in the wet will give them good car control skills. It may not be the most pleasant day but there will come a time when they will need to do well in a rain event to win the season points and be glad they did this. Most likely we will all get wet and be uncomfortable and a shower and dry clothes will feel good.

We will give the students that come their money's worth. We will have fun despite the weather.

I am now going to have another beer and let all you armchair quarterbacks flame on.

NOVICE SCHOOL STUDENTS

The school is still on. We will not run in lightning but we will run in the rain. Pay attention to the email instructions and bring rain gear, extra shoes and socks etc. We will have fun and you will have instructors. We have two courses set up that are pretty fun. (We've tested them and certified them as fun)

You signed up because you are serious about this sport and want to improve. It may not be as fun as it would on a bright sunny day, I did an anti-rain dance but it sometimes doesn't work.... :?

Thank you for your interest and attendance.

See you tomorrow.

Are you guys even looking at the forecast?
"Windy with scattered thunderstorms in the morning, then strong thunderstorms becoming likely during the afternoon. Storms may produce large hail and strong winds. High 76F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 70%"

Continuing the novice school on the notion that because rain has been in the forecast all week, therefore we will continue is wrong. The forecast has changed since the beginning of the week. And anti-rain dances? People aren't looking for jokes here. We want a serious plan in place to deal with the potential for serious weather.

I agree as a club we run in the rain, but if you don't have a severe weather plan in place, then you are fools.

Serious about the sport... Look back on this thread and take heed from the serious experts and ex-officers who recommended postponement.

I do hope all we get is rain, and you'll be lucky if that is all we get.

I'll be there, but under protest.
And I'll be vacating before trouble arrives.

This has been the forecast I've seen all week. The time to make that decision was Wednesday not 3pm Friday when we got a text message after the course was set up and everyone had taken vacation and made plans. I've been to plenty of THSCC autocrosses with the same forecast and noone suggested cancelling them.

Don't come. If youre coming under protest don't bother. I want instructors and students who want to be here, I'm sure that we've scared enough students away that we'll have plenty of instructors.

Oh yeah, sorry about the anti rain dance comment. I should have added an emoticon so that people knew I wasn't being serious.

OH yeah, and if an officer wants to cancel just text me and James and we'll go out and pick up the cones, pack up and leave tomorrow morning

I hope things worked out for the school. There was a tornado north of Laurinburg heading up 401 towards Wagram about an hour ago, and another strong storm just south of Maxton that showed as black on the weather radar.

Would have been worse in Sanford, a tornado touched down near our autocross site and headed NE towards Holly Springs and Raleigh. Heard several houses were demolished NE of Sanford, hope there are no fatalities.

I just saw footage of the Lowe's in Sanford it took a beating! One witness had her new car totalled and apparently every other vehicle had busted windows from the pressure of the tornado. I agree, let's hope for the best because this is going to leave some nasty destruction behind.

The event was dry and the weather was awesome. I think we were very lucky.

While driving back from Laurinburg, maybe 30 miles outside of the airport, we saw a house with its roof teared open and trees down all round it.

House is fine in Sanford but no power. May head down to L'burg tonight and get a room there since the power is out.

SW Fayetteville here.. got back home just before the chaos struck, luckily we were in the right places at the right times, lost power for a while but it's back now, no damage other than Trish's clutch leaving some residual smell LOL.
