I agree to a decent extent that a lot of things that are verbalized could be put on paper and signed. However, some of the safety things need to be verbalized even if they are on paper. Generally the people who need to be reminded of the safety part are NOT going to read the form and just sign it. Also, in coordination with the Novice coordinators, I'd like to focus 2-3 minutes on cone calls and standardized radio communication. During the novice walk, Rob/Maria can run through the cone call permutations:
1. Cone untouched within box (no call)
2. Cone touched, upright and the base is over *some* part of the box (no call)
2a. Cone touched, flips eleventy billion times and falls on the
ground upright and touching part of the box (no call)
3. Cone touched, on side but is touching the box (call)
4. Cone touched, upright and the base is not touching part of the box (call)
5. Cone touched, on side and not touching part of the box (call)
Also mention that pointer cones do not count as cone calls regardless
of what happens...they are purely there for directional negotiation.
Only cones that are originally upright can possibly be called in.
I know generally the 'experienced' worker at a station does the flag
and/or radio, but usually its the novices who shag cones and signal
back to the experienced worker whether it is a cone or not.
This might not be terribly pertinent to novices but I really want to
emphasize a definitive format for radio communication:
<class> <number> plus <no. cones>
I think the most important pieces of info is the car number and cone
call, and given that many people prematurely start talking after
pressing the radio button, if the class is cut off, it's no big deal
because T&S knows which 66 is on course if there are more than one.
Anyway, "plus one on tire 66" can cut off the "plus one" part and the
resulting communication by T&S to get a redo clutters the radio
communication such that other calls can be missed.
Anyway, so I think we need to add some things to the drivers meeting, but I think we can definitely trim some fat. Regardless, getting registration closed earlier due to more preregistration and more prepayment is helpful nonetheless....even if the drivers meeting can only be shortened to say 15 minutes.
*Off topic*: shouldn't your car (in your signature) be called "Tirebomb" ?
