Jeremy, what are you going with for an ECU?

If you have everything ready I think the NA -> NB motor swap is easily doable in a weekend. Especially if you have a lift.

We're hoping to replace Andrew's in a day. (With the motor ready to go in ahead of time)

Les, everythinig is sitting and waiting for the weekend of the 12/13th to get over in my buddies garage and on his lift. Then gotta get with Justin Mitchell witht he computer. So should be a 2 weekend event hopefully..

A lift will certainly help, but even with that and working with a Miata, no way I'd get it done in one weekend. I'm way to slow and lazy. :D

megasquirt with the vvt tuner. i am changing to a 03 engine with 68k and a 99 5 speed trans with 49k and a few other odds and ends!

Ya the lift is gonna be so helpful. the only thing I am worried about is the exhaust but I will figure it out!!!

Sounds like Eurothrash a few years back.

Throw in a pivot cone a we'll call it even for the torqueless/powerless crowd.

Les,

Do you recall that course we had a Sanford maybe 4-5 years back that went down the main runway onto the taxiway and then had a humongous drag race finish? That was a fun course that day for sure. I think the problem we had was the wireless comm with the finish lights though, so perhaps some setup like that is out?

I remember it, as I believe the CSP Spyder did pretty well that day.

I thought part of the reason we did that huge finish was because we were using wired timing and didn't have enough good cable to make it further up the taxiway or something. And nobody wanted to have to slalom all the way down it. And, well, it was fun. I don't *recall* any major timing problems, but that doesn't mean we didn't have them, either.

I know I was DEEP in third gear and still not anywhere near the top speed that we saw on radar.

I think you are referring to 2006's "Less > More" event, Walter and I were the event chairs. The overall course design didn't quite live up to the intent of few cones though the taxiway did. There were very few cones on the taxiway and a very long dragrace finish. I think Donnie is right, we were running wired timing cables soon after punting on the wireless. Donnie also beat me out for the FTD that day. :( We actually had a manned radar gun near the finish and I believe Chris Lanier had the highest top speed somewhere close to 100mph. I was disappointed because I had like the 8 highest top speed, of course I was in a Miata. ;-) Maybe we can revive that one this year....

Yeah, I FTD'ed (and PAX) and I was "only" going like 78MPH in the finish! Okay, I really have no idea what that number was, but it was a LONG cry from how fast a LOT of other cars were going. I'm not sure I was even in the top 20 for trap speed. Are those numbers still around anywhere? Don't see them in the event results.

Wasn't someone there in a V8 monster? Walter maybe?

I just know I pulled a run out of my ass somehow. I still don't think a CSP car should have done that on THAT day.

Don't worry. I have a noob EC for the 7/16-7/17 event in Sanford who blew a tire going to the last points event in 2009 (80s+ course with 1/10th mile drag finish. He intends to make something of similar style for the Jimmy V event ;).

Yeah, you kind of did pull that out of your ass, I remember you first run with the DNF blowing the turn around in magnificent fashion, several dirty runs, a second to last run that was clean but still a few tenths of my mark and then the final run clean and over a second faster than your previous ones to take me by a few tenths. I even let you know you were "number one" in my most rude way if I remember correctly. I'm really kinda glad you didn't start bringing that car to our events regularly. :-) Though we would certainly welcome seeing you at more again.

And yes, Walter had his V8 monster Camaro and Chris Lanier was in a similar car, I think Chris was #1 and Walter wasn't far behind. That list never did get posted officially on the website, but I think it was posted in the forum here somewhere.

Apparently Todd never got around to scanning and posting. Happen to still have them sitting around Todd 4.5 years later?

I'm almost embarrassed to admit, but I'd say 40+ man-hours. I do work slowly, but didn't expected it to take that long. Going back in is almost guaranteed to be worse. :( No the motor that was in it is not a stroker, just Doug Rippie top-end stuff. It will be going back in as a stroker however.

I work like you do. I don't race through it, I'm lazy, and not concerned about time too much. Until I know I'm late to get ready for an event... ;-) 40 hours ain't bad. They are pita to pull because some of the crap is a bear to get at. I'm surprised you didn't just drop the front suspension and cradle to get it. I watched someone do that on a C5 and they made it look too damned easy. Same with the back end. Removed about 8 bolts and had the whole rear dropped. Don't forget to put a remote clutch bleeder and some of the other maintenance bits on it while it is out of the car. 420 ft/lbs will be easy to get even in a low budget build up.

you should just chair everything at Sanford from here on out Les. two cones and some serious decelleration zones.

Yeah, I know Steve, maybe someday I'll grow up and put on my big boy pants and get out on track. Being a "track head" isn't really conducive to my increasingly unrealistic hope of retiring before I'm 75 however.

I am GMing two Sanford events this year and hopefully can team up with some ECs willing to do a "drag race" finish. Sorry in advance Miata folks.

It would be interesting to see how it does. I've run with a couple of guys with beefed up C4s. They still have a lot of grunt and do pretty darned good for 20 year old cars.

Cost though is pretty high. The big boy pants are cheap. You can buy several boxes of Depends for the cost of 1 rotor... It's the consumables for the car that aren't. I already conceded I'm not retiring at 75 and might not even make it that long. So screw it. I'm having fun until I'm broke or dead. If I make it to retirement I can just live off Hope and Change with FREE Welfare and Medical so I don't need any money then. Ya know sometimes you just got say .... it!

Some mysterious package arrived in my driveway today, whatever could it be???

4-5 weeks turned into 15, I just hope that the ridiculous delay resulted in a quality build.
