funny...I recall a recent email that said the exact opposite thing.....

Did you get the B4 JDM wheels?

2 questions:
why V710 (cost/run vs A6? performance?)
why 245/40? That's not the widest you can go is it?

Wheels were a steal. USDM LGT.

245 is as wide as you can get with our offset allowance. 40 series is smaller than OE so gearing is better for our long tranny.

Seems the kuhmos last longer and some strut car folk prefer them.

Awesome!

That's funny because this time last year I was crossing my fingers that they'd get the V710's back in stock in that same size. When they got a new shipment in they were something like 3-4 weeks old. Fresh race tires ftw!

Probably still going to run TIR this year and run the v710s at Triad/CCR events or NCAC to work my way into them.

I still need to beat Carlton in raw time on street tires :).

I was trying to say you would not need R comps to be competitive. After you run them you'll never want to go back to street tires.

This, plus adjusting to race rubber does take a few events for most of us. Switching back and forth from street/race tires between events is certainly not the ideal approach.

The thing that got me was the idea of using the good tires for Triad/CCR events, and then running street tire in THSCC. Seems backwards to me. Are you afraid of someone in DS ? :P

I just realized that V710's are only $700 compared to $1064 for purple crack. No wonder they're outta stock. I do however like the fact that the A6's are wider and 2 pounds lighter to help justify the $$$ and shorter life.

Totally agree though, it's hard to go 'slower' on street tires once you do go off the deep end with the race rubber. Then again, maybe the Star Specs are that much better (closer to R-comps) than the 615's I used to run.

Either way, enjoy!

That's a good point. I guess I was thinking about season points and running the same class the whole year. Maybe I'll just run open DS from the start even if I don't have r comps yet.

Holy cow! That's a big difference. I just looked it up for my car, and you're right. I don't think it used to be such a wide spread, at least, not in the sizes I run on.

I still don't see myself hitting the reset button on 4 years of setup for Hoosiers though. Besides. We've got like a dozen of the things, some of which have never been mounted. :D

I don't know what it is with Hoosier and their prices. I'm pretty sure they would sell more tires and make more money if the put their prices more in line with everyone else.

For tires for the Miata.
NT-01 (Track compound)
225/45R15 - 556.00
Z214
225/45ZR15 - 648.00
v710
225/50R15 - 772.00
A6
225/45ZR15 - 912.00
275/35ZR15 - 1,064.00

If a set of A6s makes it through a season, assuming 70 runs for the 8 points events between myself and Laura, that's $15 in the tire jar after every run on A6s. I can't imagine how bad it is for cars that are hard on tires.

It's best not to think about the cost, but focus on the fun. (That said, I'm looking for sources of "lightly used" A6s or R6s for when my current A6s are done.)
