This is the one where you have to sign up well in advance because of security, right? Make me feel better about missing it...

Only about 30% of the runway paving is complete. You sure can tell when you transition onto the new asphalt

Was the course as tight and slow as it looks in the video?

You had to be registered the Thursday before the event and show picture ID to the guard.

Hmmm, wasn't fast but wasn't slow either, it could be I'm just slow :) If I could string together the best parts of all my runs I would have hit the rev limiter in 3 spots. That said I was really itching to just run my car, so I was REALLY happy to just be there

The sad thing is there was at least twice as much space available length wise. Once the entire runway is finished being resurfaced, I can't imagine a better surface for your CM car Dick.

Ryan,

I wasn't commenting on the apparent speed but on the apparent tightness of the turns and how close together they seemed to be. How fast is your second gear in mph?

Of course, I thought this VMP course was slow (or I was) (max speed in my car was about 65 mph)

Glad to hear it is (or will be) a good site.

Dick

Yea Kent I agree. Why Register three days in advance to run the replica of the National East Course that everyone who went to the Nationals had to register six weeks in advance for and payed 150$ to get into for three runs. Three days in advance and 30$ for six runs on the same course really sux........DUH

 - that's not what I meant at all - I just felt bad I hadn't heard about the event till after the deadline to register.

My car currently does about 62 on the limiter. I hope by next year I have that up to ~65

From my understanding they will be running there again next year and another large military airfield much closer to Raleigh

Here is another video from Jeff Eng

I think the in-car perspective made it seem tight

I agree. Actually, it was not tight at all. The course design, while taken from the Nat's course map, was much more open than the elements were in Lincoln - so, a flavor, but not an outright copy. My best time was 56.3, my high end of 2nd is 56mph, and I was on the limiter 3 times. I left so much out there too, just being too hot into the sweepers, etc.

There's sooooo much room there that they could add 30 seconds to the course without batting an eye. There are 2 problems with that at this time, however. #1-we only had 61 drivers and were forced into having only 2 run groups just to cover worker assignments for so few drivers. A longer course requires more worker stations. #2-part of the reason they get these great sites (free) is that they do Military Only Novice school the Saturday before. A little over 25 % of the Sunday drivers were Saturday students. They want to keep the course simple enough for those guys to not be completely lost.

To any of you who would like to attend, and who don't hear about it in time, Brad Draughon's name is always on Myautoevents.com. You can email him and he'll leave your name at the gate. Also, I'll try to be more diligent on posting upcoming events there. Or, just PM me and I'll try to take care of you. They just give the entry list to the gate. I gave my name and car # and was on my way. It's no more disruptive than having to stop and sign in at any other event. That, by the way, you do at registration when you pay.

All in all, a great opportunity to try a different site and have a great time. I'll tell you something else too; spending a day watching these Marines having that much fun is worth the trip!

Kent it sure didn't read that way, sorry....
If NCR can get Seymore Johnson AFB.... It will be the another great site ....
If you all will recall I recommended that we(THSCC) go after the Cherry Point site six years ago when I still knew the base CO. and was summarily blown off...OH Well I guess I'm just an old wise ass.... Good Job NCR....

Really? Can you hint as to which city the large military ramp is in? Goldsboro? Fayetteville?

I've always looked at "Green Ramp" at Pope Army Airfield and envisioned cones scattered about and cars going Flat_Out there.

Thanks Bernie. I saw your post after I made mine.

Seymore would be a great site also. Hopefully they will get the necessary permission.
