Magnetics are a lot easier and less expensive for this club than some where the numbers are assigned for each event without a choice.
A reminder that I do own a vinyl cutting machine and have magnetic sheet as well as heavy duty static cling film backing for the ferrously challenged cars and offer special club pricing.
There was an instance this weekend where a car had paper #s, but their handmade paper class lettering could not be read from more than a couple feet away. If you are doing your own markings, review the minimum size requirements, including stroke (the width of the thinnest part) and exceed them if possible. (I personally think the minimum size is too small in most cases, I'd recommend #'s at least 10" tall with 2" minimum stroke, and class letters at least 6" tall with 1-1/2" stroke) Check that they can be read by walking a significant distance away (like the distance from the bus to the start line Sun) and see if you can read them easily at a glance. If you need assistance with doing your own just ask, pm, email me, I'll be glad to help, no charge!

If you'd like to see graphic  examples of good and poorer markings check out Simon's pictures from the event (not trying to pick on anyone here, just making use of the visual aid) .
Even meeting and exceeding the minimum standards doesn't guarantee legibility. Compare the excellent job on the yellow Spyder to the similar sized but lower contrast markings on the black Lotus. Check the VW Cab for the illegible class markings I talked about in my last post, and some of the flapping paper designations. Also notice how long it takes to read the info on the car that has numbers on the door, but the class in the side window.
Even our beloved Prez doesn't get off the hook! Check out the video and tell me what # and class the Subie is running.

Chuck, I am not picking on you but at least for me, your "GS" on you car looks very much like "CS" to me. The letters are in a very curvy script and the little hook on the G is very small and almost looks like a serif. I know it is GS, but a newbie might not.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Richard,
Thanks for the comment. I actually had changed the original version "G" in that font to emphasize the piece that changes a C to a G and made the letters as large as allowed by the SCCA rules in comparison to our numbers because of that. I Used the Capital G as the critical letter in choosing that font. Unfortunately that is one letter in most all fonts that no matter what you do it always ends up bearing a resemblance to another letter from a distance.
