Can someone help me reconcile this wording:

From Preamble to Section 15

"Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current national Improved
Touring rules are permitted to compete in their respective Street Prepared
classes. Neither Street Prepared nor Improved Touring cars are
permitted to interchange preparation rules.
Improved Touring cars may
use tires which are eligible under current IT rules even if they are not
eligible in Street Prepared."

and...

"Cars eligible for the current Spec Miata rules are permitted to compete
in class D Street Prepared, with the additional allowance that they may
use any size of any tire which meets the requirements of 15.3 and fi ts
on the Spec Miata allowed wheels and within the allowed bodywork.
Spec Miata cars in DSP may not intermix use of the Spec Miata and
Street Prepared allowances. The competitor is responsible for being
in possession of the Spec Miata rules and for proving that his/her car
conforms to the rules."

IT rules allow the removal of the car's interior. Does this mean if I bought an IT* car, I would have to source and reinstall the interior since SP rules say I have to have "the standard number of seats" and also don't authorize removal of headliner, carpet etc? Seems implicit in the IT statement above that IT* cars are excluded, as the IT ruleset appears to supercede the SP rules in these two specific instances (well, it also appears to make allowances for American Sedan cars as well)? Seems to me the intent is to have the car coform to the Improved Touring OR the SP rules, but not cherrypick between the two.

Any takers? Thanks in advance!

You're right in your last statement. If you want to run an IT or SM in SP, they have to meet IT or SM rules, NOT SP rules. Your IT or SM allowances are still there, but you can't go applying SP allowances on top of that.

Which is theoretically all fine since you *shouldn't* find any cases where the IT or SM are overdogs by any stretch of the imagination. Can you do okay locally in one? Probably.

Thanks, Donnie.

I should never be confused with a national Contender in autocross. Or track/w2w stuff (if I ever get there). I enjoy it, it's fun and the people I've met so far have been top-shelf, so I consider being a "local hack" about as far as my Mittyesque motorsports dream will take me. I wear the title with pride!

Just working on getting the maximum fun out of the E30 I have for as little additional cash outlay, which I think DSP/ITS or KP (BMWCCA) class may be the best "cloud" of rulesets to aim for. The car is about right for SpecE30 in its current set-up, but ITS/DSP both allow for better exhaust solutions and tweaking of the DME. I'll have to review the KP allowances, but for now this should get me going in the right direction.

Be careful with the BMWCCA stuff. KP doesn't translate in the ruleset for the preamble to section 15. It's only IT, for those rules are governed by the SCCA. - AB

Thanks Aaron,

The goal is to keep the car flexible for as many potential club opportunities as possible, with limited swapping of parts and minimal (if any) permanent engine modifications like overboring, port/polish etc. That way the car can be made most attractive to potential buyers when/if I move onto something else.

Always know the rules for the class in which you plan to compete before you commit to any car modifications....

Steve,

I just noticed: "2001 BMW M Roadster-- for sale $22k".

Do you have a for sale thread on a board somewhere?

Chuck

No....mainly because I'm very conflicted about selling it. Don't want to, but what was supposed to be a fun, unusual weekend car for me and my wife has turned into an occasional driver for me--not as originally planned. 3k miles in 3years is not what I had in mind, but life often doesn't go as planned you know. The kids aren't totally stoked to ride in it with me, and I didn't get it just for my enjoyment. I could probably use the garage space now, so I'm reluctantly selling it. So reluctant I haven't put up an ad yet. I could shoot you some pics if you're interested (or know someone who might be).

Chuck, feel free to buy Steve's M roadster or find someone else who would like to. Then he'll have more funds and garage space to turn the e30 into a DSP monster :).

Nah, I was just curious about it (i.e. miles, condition, history, etc) in general that I wondered if there was a marketing page for it. BTW, seeing Z4 Mcoupes falling into the mid to upper 20's in some cases is interesting though.

Miles: 33,xxx

Condition: garaged its whole life, minimal (2-3) small nicks on lower valance, paint otherwise 9 out of 10. Had to Dr Colorchip a few small road nicks Original rear window still clear (have replacement) Interior nearlyflawless, perfect leather, v/ minimal bolster wear. Engine/mech (according to Truett at Shadetree) "Looks like a brand new car." Two probs: needs a new subwoofer and the shiftknob needs to be secured.

I'm third owner (originally a lease, sold to a dealer in VA at auction, sold to a late 40s couple in Mooresville, I bought it from them in 2007.)

Sigh...may as well start making the ad....

Dang, if only I could win the lottery..... If I could stomach driving a BMW, I've always said I'd love to have a Z3 M Coupe. I've got a soft spot for "the shoe".
