Of course, this penalizes the drivers of fast cars.

Would it work to take the Top PAX and Top RAW drivers (8 per club for example), and add their PAX and RAW times together, then use that as their total time?

That would help neutralize the mod cars. Of course, if you are top RAW and top PAX, you will get counted twice, so it pays to have your best drivers in really fast cars.

Did that make any sense?

Read my posts again Scott. That's what I was proposing. The only reason behind eliminating karts and non-fendered Mod cars is that if you have a club with 3-4 mod cars/karts in with decent drivers, considering the non-PAX times added together are going to be the bulk of the team time, it would easily lead to a win. We could state that only 2 of the top 10 times can be with a kart or non-fendered Mod car. - AB

A few comments:

Nationally E Mod (a fendered sprite) is faster than DM and maybe CM. FM is almost as fast or faster than CM. The fastest BM cars are fendered (i.e. sports racers) and S2000 sports racers run in CM.

By the way, which clubs in NC have significant numbers of any even close to Nationally competive Mod cars in any class including F125? I want to go play with them for the competition. The closest I know of is the Duke FSAE team with the Nascar (lower professional series) driver who is also a Duke student that I actually beat (barely) at VMP last year (slow FSAE car, fast FSAE driver  )

How many of the Mod Cars in NC are Pax contenders? I expected to be at Greenville but my car broke before I could either prove my point or go home with my tail between my legs  Again, I want to go play where they play. Does George Bowland show up at autocrosses? Is he likely to come to the NCAC?

Finally, how many fast real mod cars can you stuff multiple fast drivers in? 2 per class right? Very few fast mod car ladies class drivers even in the whole of North America. Kelly (my wife for you newer folks) and Patti Frye used to be a couple of seconds off of David Frye and I. Are there any current quick Mod ladies?

FYI the Sanford gravel makes it unlikely that I will show up in any case in my CM car and I'm not about to show off how rusty I am in a "real" car even if one was made available . . .

Earlier in my posts I said that I thought AM, BM, CM, DM, EM and karts should not be part of the club cup competition for raw times only. Then I softened to saying only 2 of each teams top 10 could be part of the club cup group. I shouldn't have used "non-fendered" Mod cars. I just wanted to include SM, SMF and SM2 as they are more heavily prescribed. There is nothing limiting anyone from coming out in any class and competing for a NCAC title, we just need to close loopholes for the club cup. That's all ;) - AB

No problem. If this is done, don't forget FSAE, FM and F125 or for that matter the junior karts.

Are there actually clubs or events with significant numbers of quick Mod cars? I'm serious about finding competition as I get active again.

Around here it will be hard to find Mod cars or karts in abundance, so getting back in the swing will have to be comparing yourself to the top drivers in area. I would say that the Danville events for any club seem to bring out the good drivers in the area. - AB

My idea was to bin the club cup altogether. I hate it.

I think it's a bit contrived too, but the reason to come is to be the North Carolina Autocross Champion for the year. The Club Cup is a distraction from that, for you get people running classes they never normally run "for the benefit of the team". Autocross isn't a team sport  - AB

No, we should still have it, but it should be called the "Dixie" cup, and the recipient will know why it's called that (it will be moulded on the bottom of the cup).

Even better, give everyone a "Dixie" cup. It's time THSCC had trophies again! I can borrow a sharpie from work, and we can personalize everyone's Dixie cups.

If there is an official hotel, maybe there could be a keg of beer on Sat night, and we could fill everyone's Dixie cups?

it's kinda like the olympics...countries send their best to compete and if they medal it goes to the "medal count" for the country. now if we only scored the club cup like the olympics, maybe that would help.

this is, admittedly, coming from someone that has only been to one NCAC - but i did win ES that year ;-)
