Regarding things you don't remember - While you were out, Bernie coned his last run.

Brown, I'm not that kind of doctor. I can only help you if you are crazy. Remchak is filling my THSCC quota. I usually do better work and have better outcomes.

Hi Gwen. So glad you are feeling better. You are one lucky lady to have so many good people care so much about you. Debbie

When Jeremy was luring me back into autox after a 8 year hiatus, and before hiatus running with NCR SCCA living in wilmington, he talked me into co driving his miata last year at the late summer sanford autox. The "family" feel made me pay dues and join up and I have enjoyed it ever since. Even driving as far as I do it is worth it EVERY time.

That's a nice thing to say. I know you drive a long way to join us. Thanks.

If you wanted it to be official you would need an ambulance. To use a car analogy, the EMT is a mechanic and the Ambulance is his toolbox. What an EMT can do without the gear in the ambulance is pretty limited. My certification just ran out a month or two ago but if the club wanted to carry a somewhat stocked jump bag I wouldn't mind being officially the unofficial medic.

my wife IS a registered nurse, and she's always there, but as you said, without the proper tools, there is only so much she can do.

Well, there's the "big" toolkit and the "small" toolkit...I would think, given the relatively close proximity of hospitals to our event sites that we would need someone more in a "rapid responder" capacity to bridge the 15-20 minutes it would take to get an ambulance onsite, so an EMT with a stocked jumpbag (that's what I was getting at in my first post) may be sufficient and not overly expensive. Doubtful we'd need oxygen, an AED or ACLS drugs immediately available, but maybe IV access and fluids, bandages, sphygmomanometer, stehoscope, maybe a portable pulse oximeter, etc

In his defense, he did have some assistance with them. :)

We actually have several medical professionals in the club. Rebecca is an RN, Marcus McRae also is an RN and if the Johnsons ever come back out, Sally is a Doctor. Those are just the ones that I know of.

That said, they can only do so much. Sure, they know the basics and can get a person comfortable, but they obviously don't have the necessary tools and equipment in place to handle a situation like Gwen's or Stephen's from a few years ago.

I like the idea of having an EMT at the event but does the cost out weigh the benefit? Has anybody looked into how much it would cost to have EMTs present? I'm guessing it wouldn't be cheap at all.

I have been to alot of autocrosses over the past decade and have been to exactly zero that had EMTs present. I also have been to only 2 events (both in Greenville) where someone had to go to the hospital for any sort of care. That is 2 events out of 80 or so THSCC and probably a dozen other events. That is a pretty small percentage.

I think having an emergency plan in place, complete with phone numbers and directions to local hospitals, would go along way towards easing the minds of the officers when faced with the situation. turn by turn directions from each site to the closest hospital is something that should be included.

Another thought, has anyone looked to see if our insurance would be cheaper if we had EMTs on site?
